MY UNFORGETABLE TRIP TO BACOLOD CITY

By Zee615

I remember the first time our homeroom adviser mentioned to the class that there would be around 0 students from the batch to be chosen as representatives of the school for the biannual exchange student program to University of St. La Salle Bacolod. I really wasn't paying much attention to her at the time because I was trying to understand a Physics problem that was given to us two days before as an assignment that was due later that day. I was reading and re-reading the Physics problem trying to make sense of the problem, when my homeroom adviser called me and another classmate of mine and said that she would like to speak to us outside.

As we stepped outside the classroom she snapped at me and told me that she noticed me working hard on something. I just smiled it off and told her "Hehe, ya, I was trying to work on a Physics problem." She became serious again after and asked us if we wanted to be the exchange students, she was talking about to the class a while ago. I really didn't want to but we both told her that we would think about it first. She agreed and told us that we should have decided by the end of the week.

When I got back to the room, my friends asked me why I was called out. I told them what our adviser told me and I got mixed reactions from them. They all told me that it was great that I was chosen by our adviser but some told me that it might be hard to be an exchange student. After that little talk with my friends, I didn't think of the proposal until I got home. I told my parents the news when they got home and they were thrilled. Still told me that it was my decision to accept it or not. That night, I thought about weather or not I really wanted to go and after a long debate with myself, I was convinced to go ahead. Next day I told my adviser that I thought about what she said the previous day and was going to accept.

The days till our departure passed quickly. After all the final reminders by the administration, it was time to leave for the airport. When I was in the airport and until I got off the plane that landed in Bacolod, I wasn't sure if the butterflies in my stomach were because of eagerness, anxiousness or just the plane trip.

At the airport, we were greeted by our host family. The teachers we were with told us to spend the rest of the day with our host family and just meet again tomorrow at University of St. La Salle. As we were waiting for our luggage and the car, I noticed that everyone there spoke very fluent English. This came as a relief to most of us exchange students because we could not understand Ilongo.

When all of our stuff arrived and the other students found their host families, we left the airport. Bacolod was a sight to see. The clean streets and smooth traffic really gave the impression that this place was far from Manila. When we got home, Johann, our host, was there to greet us. He showed us the room we were to stay in and we got to know each other for a while. The rest of the day passed with us resting most of the time because of exhaustion of the trip.

The next morning I got up early because I had a lot of rest the night before. It was time to go to University of St. La Salle, our primary reason for going to Bacolod. I had a good time while we were there because all of the students and teachers there treated us very warmly as we went around the campus. There were days that we had classes and we were to sit in classes of the other fourth year students. I was assigned to 1-1, along with four other exchange students. The class was real happy to have five more classmates even for just a couple of days. I made many new friends in the class because they themselves talked to us and made it easy for the other exchange students and me to feel what the class was like.

The other days that we were not attending classes, we went around the city and its neighboring towns to see the sights of Bacolod. We also went shopping for pasalubong like piyaya and other delicacies.

We also went to other La Salle ran schools that were for the less fortunate people of the place.

The night before the end of our trip was the most memorable part of the trip for me because the students set-up a farewell party for us. I think the whole batch was there because the bar where we went to was full. I was able to talk to more of the people I go to know through the days and we exchanged numbers so that even though I was leaving, we could still be in touch.

Now as I think about my trip to Bacolod, I remember all the friendly people there that made my stay so unforgetable.

locke vs.hobbes

Locke versus Hobbes Locke and Hobbes were both social contract theorists, and both natural law theorists, but there the resemblance ends. All other natural law theorists assumed that man was by nature a social animal. Hobbes assumed otherwise, thus his conclusions are strikingly different from those of other natural law theorists. What would life and human relations be like in the absence of government? Thomas Hobbes was the first to attempt to illustrate this condition using an intellectual device- a "thought experiment", known as the "State of Nature". For Hobbes, the state of nature was not an actual period in history, but rather a way of rationalizing how people would act in their most basic state. He believed that everything in the universe was simply atoms in motion, and that geometry and math could be used to explain human behavior. According to his theories, there were two types of motion in the universe Vital (involuntary motion such as heart rate), and Voluntary (things that we choose to do). Voluntary motion was then broken into two categories that Hobbes believed were mathematical equations-Desires and Aversions. Desires were things one was moved to or that were valued by the individual, while aversions were fears or things to be avoided by the individual. Hobbes further believed that an individual's appetite constantly kept him or her in motion, and that in order to remain in motion, everyone needs a certain degree of power. Thus the pursuit of power is the natural state of humans. Hobbes then says that nature ahs made men basically equal. He also says that people were constantly in a struggle for power and above all else, they wanted to avoid a violent death. In the state of nature, people were always at war with one another, a war of all against all. Every person had the right to do anything they pleased. Hobbes thought that this would go on until people discovered that they could prevent their demise by avoiding doing things that would purposely endanger their lives. Hobbes also thought that an authoritarian government would come to power in order to enforce the social contract by whatever means necessary. He called this Leviathan. Individuals exchanged their rights in return for peace, security, and protection from one another. John Locke embraced many of the ideas presented by Hobbes in his theories on the state of nature and the rise of government. They differed however, in that Locke believed that God was the prime factor in politics. He believed that individuals were born with certain rights given not by government or society, but by God. This he said, is what gives all people equality. Locke said in the state of nature men mostly kept their promises and honored their obligations, and, though insecure, it was mostly peaceful, good, and pleasant. He says that humans know what is right and wrong, and are capable of knowing what is lawful and unlawful well enough to resolve conflicts. In particular, and most importantly, they are capable of telling the difference between what is theirs and what belongs to someone else. Hobbes says that our knowledge of objective, true answers on such questions is so feeble, so slight and imperfect as to be mostly worthless in resolving practical arguments. In a state of nature people cannot know what is theirs and what is someone else's. Property exists solely by the will of the state, so in a state of nature men are condemned to endless violent conflict. On the social contract, Locke says we give up our right to ourselves. We retain the right to life and liberty, and gain the protection of our property. Hobbes basically says, if you shut up and do as you are told, you have the right not to be killed. On the Violation of the social contract, Locke says that if a ruler seeks absolute power, if he acts both as judge and participant in disputes, he puts himself in a state of war with his subjects. Then he says we have the right to kill such a ruler. Hobbes says that we have no right to rebel, because a king can do no wrong.

The architect Leopold Eidlitz once said "American architecture is the art of covering one thing with another thing to imitate a third thing, which if genuine would not be desirable" (guide pg. 4). The architects who designed Washington D.C. were true to this. Neoclassical, Greek Revival, Roman Revival, Georgian, Gothic Revival, and Egyptian architectural styles were all used in the creation of the city in the 1800's.

The image of Classical order came to be strongly associated with public buildings and their role in elevating public virtue (Understanding Architecture pg. 4). William Thorton's design for the Capital Building captured that image. "The grandeur, the simplicity, and the beauty…will, I doubt not, give it a preference in your eyes as it has in mine," Thorton exclaimed (geocities.com). The design for the Capital was a work of art but would prove to be difficult to build. In 180, Benjamin Henry Latrobe took over work on the building (geocities.com). By 1807, he had completed the south wing and had begun repairs and alterations to the north wing (guide pg.). Unfortunately on August 4th, 1814 Admiral Cockburn of the British Navy set fire to this "harbor to Yankee Democracy" (guide pg.). When Latrobe began reconstruction, it allowed him to explore different Greek styles and to find something suitable for democratic expression (geocities.com). Latrobe can be seen as the originator of the American search for a purer Classicism (geocities.com). Charles Bulfinch took over construction in 181 and completed the project in 18 (guide pg.).

The White House, which was designed and contracted by James Hoban was first created between 17 and 1801. Like the Capital Building, Neoclassical styles were used but with an expression of Georgian architecture (greatbuildings.com). The White House also was set fire on in 1814 but was not destroyed. By some stroke of luck, a large thunderstorm came over while it was burning and smothered the flames (guide pg.70). After the war, Hoban set to work on repairing the house. In 18 the White House was completed again, this time with North and South Porticos (guide pg.71). The house stands today as it did then and it still houses the president and his family.

Classic and Greek Revival styles were also used in many random buildings throughout the city at this time. Such buildings are the National Portrait Gallery, Tariff Commission, Central Library, American Security and Trust Building, St. John's Church, the Van Ness Mausoleum, and the Treasury Building (guide). Each of the buildings' architecture can closely resemble that of ancient Europe.

In 18, a wealthy English scientist James Smithson left a large sum of money to the people of the United States. He requested that the money be used to create and institution in order to "increase the diffusion of knowledge among men" (geocities.com). James Renwick was chosen to create the "castle" and his work became one of the finest and most important Gothic Revival buildings in America (guide pg.4). It is an anachronism to Washington D.C. because of its distinctness from the rest of the city. The irregular shape made up of many turrets, spires, parapets, and towers make it easily recognizable (sc4.ameslab.gov). The castle now serves as the administrative headquarters of the Smithsonian Institution (guide pg.4). There are now sixteen museums, four research centers, the National Zoo, a system of libraries, and many other offices controlled by the institution (geocities.com)

Located in the National Mall is a stone building that was the tallest masonry structure in the world. The Washington Monument stands five hundred fifty-five feet and was created by Robert Mills. It features an Egyptian style of architecture that was to this point absent in the United Sates (guide pg.40). "The Obelisk has to my eye a singular aptitude in its form and character to call attention to a spot memorable in its history. It says but one word. But it speaks loud. If I understand this voice, it says 'Here'" (guide pg.40)

Washington D.C. is a city filled with democracy, freedom, and hope. The great architects who built this city put these qualities into every structure created. It is this and the use of European architectural styles that molded to create the beautiful city we know today.

In this essay, I am going to explain what Christians mean by love, and also give some non-Christian views on love to see if they really are so different. I am also going to see if everyone agrees on what love is, and if there are different types, if so, what they are.

In English, we have one single word for love, whereas in Greek, they have many different words for it

oEros Sexual love/ physical love. When someone is attracted to someone, they're often in a state of Eros, because they are sexually attracted to someone.

oLudis Flirtatious, teasing love. This love is associated with a teenage kind of love. It is where the parties play games, resulting in a fleeting type of quick romance. Ludis is an outward expression of love. It is often intended to arouse another to physical attraction, which can lead to Eros.

oPhilo Brotherly love. Love that is generated and/or related because of a common bond.

oStorge Friendship love. Friendship love, involving respect and concern for another person's interest. This love contains more companionship than excitement.

oPragma Logical love. This is for people who worry about if their partner would be a good parent. It is the kind of love that is based on shares interest and common backgrounds. This love is influenced by a series of principals, and the application of reason.

oMania Smothering love. It is possessive, dependant, and jealous love. Mania is a mentally excited, excessive and persistent love. This type of love is like an obsession or craving. It can lead to exaggerated feelings and excessiveness.

oAgape Divine love. This is also called self-sacrificing love. It is when someone is willing to so something for someone else with no expectations of anything in return.

Christians believe love is vital. Jesus summed up the 10 commandments in just two

1.Love God

.Love your neighbour

This shows that to Christians love is important because if you can sum up the 10 commandments in just two, and they both include love, it shows just how important they feel it is.

In 1 Corinthians, verses 4-8 and verse 1, the idea of love is also conveyed as a very important part of a Christian's life. Is says 'Love is patient, love is kind. It does not boast, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and does not get upset with others. Love does not count up wrongs that have been done. Love is not happy with evil but is happy with the truth. Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes and always remains strong. It never ends. So all three things continue forever faith, hope and love. And the greatest of these is love.'

The message of love is all through the bible, and I think it is probably one of the most recurring things in there. When Christians say love, they don't mean Eros, Ludis, Pragma or Mania, they mean Agape, Philo and Storge. They don't mean teasing, flirting, logical love, smothering love, or sexual love, they mean friendship love. Christians think you should care for one another as though they are family; you should care about their wellbeing, and want the best for them, you should be understanding, you shouldn't be critical, you should just care about them and hope for the best for them. You should love others enough to help them when they need it, and not turn your back on them.

Non-Christians have also tried to sum up love, and I was looking at things people have said about love, and one quote seemed to stick in my head, because even though it wasn't long, it gave summed up how a non-Christian may feel about love. It talks about trust. 'Love is giving someone the ability to destroy you but trusting them not to'. This quote is talking about deep meaningful love, not really Eros, Ludis, Philo, Storge, Pragma or Mania, but Agape. It is saying that when you let someone into your heart, then they can hurt you, but if you let them in in the first place, you must trust that they wouldn't hurt you.

Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" is a riveting tale of repression. The story is quite clenching and the ending blooms with irony. Mrs. Louise Mallard is nothing short of a loving wife, however, when news of her husband Brently's death penetrates her heart, she is changed. Weeping violently in front of her sister, she escapes to her bedroom so she may allow the news to absorb. Like a sponge in placid water, she begins visualizing the reality of a life of her own. Allowing, for what seems like the first time, the true emotion that she has felt for many years to seep out of her pores. For Louise has always lived for Brently, she had loved him, but the sudden burst of self-assertion took over. Unsure of what bestow upon her, her body and soul were now free. Louise drank in his death not as an ending, but as her new beginning. The irony is overwhelming when Louise descends the staircase, regains her composure, only to see her husband walk in the door very much alive. To imagine what she felt is awe-inspiring, to have wept with secret joy that only she could know, only to have the reality of his existence break her heart. To know what she wanted so badly, now would never exist, was the driving force of the knife that pierced her heart and ended her life.

Louise clearly is a complex person. Her young, fair, calm face was merely a reflection of the strong will she would eventually find in herself. She had kept these feelings locked up for so long in a barbaric prison of her "Life", that once the emotion was free; it rampaged like an unleashed prisoner. "Free, free, free!" she whispered so delicately, as if the prisoner had found a clean escape. She did escape, in spite of the fact that it wasn't in the life she wanted, but in the death that was eminent.

Michelle Wynn's "Boundaries" is a similar story with indecisive Penny lurking about unhappy and repressed. Penny created her own living hell, and eventually her world came burning down upon her. As she meets and eventually moves in with Bill, she is overwhelmed with the sense of significance, sufficiency and security that she feels. "Bills strength made Penny want to abandon herself to him" is valuable, for she let herself disappear like a train on a distant track. Penny became what Bill wanted; she was weak and lacked any sense of self. She was an unhappy woman in the choices she had made, for there was no evidence of her existence in Bill's world. She was alone in her body and soul, controlled not by her emotion, but by the words of another.

A simple Penny, as if the smallest of coins, didnt stand a chance with dominant Bill. His needs and wants superceded her own. She had no strength to stand up and make a change; she didn't want to make waves. Her life with Bill was setup, one disappointment after another. Penny would cry inside, yet, display an emotionless face to the outside world. Resembling Louise, Penny began to resent Bill rather than love him. During her confrontation with herself, she began to realize how impersonal her life had become. She had no place in Bill's house, with his furniture, his family pictures and his preferences on everything. Penny's things were hidden in the basement, as if they were second hand items from a rummage sale that just wouldn't "fit" in his house.

Do my essay on "Penny and Louise"

Penny had suddenly realized all the small choices she had made had subtly repressed her life. Visualizing Penny, she seems frail and demure, with the ironclad fist of Bill constantly hammering down upon her. He was a control freak, and would continue to steer Penny, as if she were a ship lost at sea, straight into his controlling arms. To Penny, she had reached the point of no return. Her level of loss had been saturated with the unhappiness she had grown so accustomed to. For her to be free and feel again is for Bill to be nonexistent in the world which is her prison.

As she reaches to wipe the gloom away from her life, she trembles. Not from fear of what is to come, but from what has passed. Penny is capable of finding herself, even if it means picking up Bill's 8 automatic and using it to end her torture. The kiss she blew him was the very bullet of her freedom. Ending her torture, paying her ransom and freeing her to live again.

These two remarkable women have endured the pain of a controlling "sense of self" thief. Unfortunately for them, they never stood a chance to gain back the most precious jewel of life, the ability to love and be loved. To salvage any significance was to realize the repression existed in their lives because they allowed it to; unfortunately, it drove both women to their death.

INTRO

Nucor had once been considered the fastest-growing steel company in America that was unstoppable. In the twenty-first century Nucor is being challenged by a changing industry where there is a worldwide decrease in demand for steel and steel related products, increasing competition, especially from foreign competitors, in a maturing market and environmental concerns about alleged violations of federal and state clean air rules.

In response Nucor's management has embarked on a growth strategy in the course of a shakeup of the management structure through the adding of outside directors to the board as well as a centralization of the organisation's procedures. Nucor hopes that this growth strategy will have a positive impact on the future profitability and help realize its goal of becoming the largest steel maker in the United States.

Porter's Five Forces

Do my essay on Nucor- case study

Rivalry in the industry

The industry is not only fragmented but the boundaries of its various sub-parts are vague and overlapping. Steel products are marketed principally through in-house sales forces. The principal competitive factors are price and service.

The company is not the strongest, but it can defend itself from stronger rivals and capitalize on the vulnerabilities of weaker rivals.Nucor has better cost management skills than other U.S firms. Nucor consistently improves its technological capabilities. Nucor's employees are paid for performance, making them very productive.

Threats of Substitute

Nucor vs. integrated mills, other mini-mill, foreign mills, and specialty mills.

Nucor's success as a low-cost provider could not be accomplished without utilizing the cost reduction capabilities in every element of their value chain; this is the biggest difference between Nucor and its rivals.

Nucor's rivals, for the most part, still use traditional integrated steel mills, which inefficiently use a single large scale plant to perform all of the steel making functions.

Barriers to entry by Potential Competitor

Considerable competition exists from numerous domestic manufacturers and foreign imports. The markets that Nucor serves are tied to capital and durable goods spending and are affected by changes in economic conditions.

Global demand for steel expanded continuously throughout the 160s, a demand domestic producers elected to not meet, choosing only to match domestic consumption requirements. This presented an opportunity for up-start foreign producers to rejuvenate and strengthen themselves without directly competing against U.S. producers.

Antidumping Rulings U.S. integrated steel producers filed charges of dumping against foreign competitors -- primarily the Germans and Japanese.

Bargaining Power of Suppliers

The bargaining power of suppliers within such industry is low. The supply factors of production (transformation factors) are labor to operate plants, capital facilities, and land. Recent modernization has significantly substituted technology for labor in steel production. Yet, Not all stakeholders have been happy with the way Nucor does business. There were also concerns about the excess incentives the stat gave to convince Nucor to build steel mill and it also argues that their new federal law should go for extra care with the restoration of spawning and nursery habits and improve water system due to the fast track of facility being built in Hertford by Nucor.

Bargaining Power of Customers

The bargaining power of customers is medium to high because of a reduced demand by the auto industry as of the result of the lower steel content in a modern automobile; a trend steel producers are aggressively trying to counter by banding together to form the Steel Alliance which is running a $100 million advertising campaign targeted at consumers touting the advantages of steel for automobile design (and house construction).

Service centers are also playing an increased role in the industry, acting as major distributors and wholesalers for finished steel products to steel consumers (construction firms, shipbuilders, machine fabricators, etc.). With the exception of the auto and auto part manufacturers (who contract directly with producers), most finished steel is delivered to end users is via the steel service center, moving some of the inventory management burden to the service centers for a marginal mark-up to the end user. This presents a forecasting complication to planners and strategists as all demand for steel is a derived demand, the forecaster must be able to look into the macro forces affecting an economy and project steels role in the broader economic system from which a consumer demand pattern could be ascertained.

Emotions are defined as patterns of chemical and neural responses. Their function of is to assist you in maintaining life by prompting adaptive behaviors. They are due to the activation of a set of brain structures. The emotions are biologically determined, stereotypical, and automatic, although culture and individual experiences may influence them as well and can modify expressions. Damasio distinguishes six primary or universal emotions happiness, sadness, fear, anger, surprise, and disgust, which are based on universal facial expressions. He also defined other secondary and social emotions such as embarrassment, jealousy, guilt and pride, well-being, malaise, calmness, tension, fatigue, energetic, anticipation, and dread. Emotions are a set of complex states involving affect, desire, and action based on neural mechanisms. Evolution of these mechanisms for emotion gives way to the theory that emotion leads to consciousness.

There are rather well defined brain regions responsible for emotion. This relates directly with the idea that consciousness exhibits a phylogenetic continuity. The brain stem is involved in virtually all of the areas related to emotion including the hypothalamus and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, which are responsible for sadness, the amygdala, which is mainly responsible for fear and for the recognition of fearful expression. Also the anterior cingulate cortex is regarded by Damasio as the most important region among those that make consciousness possible.

Emotions are not easily described, because of the simultaneous activation of several structures and feedback reactions among them. This prevents the process from being straightforward and creates problems for the overall understanding of levels of processing. First an object or situation is either detected and represented by sensory devices or recalled from memory, and these neural patterns activate nuclei in the brain stem, the hypothalamus, and the amygdala. This perhaps is an emotional episode, but it can also be regarded as the first step in a process whose final consequences are, for example, heart-rate alterations, facial expressions, and characteristic behavior. The structures just mentioned release hormones of various kinds in the bloodstream. The same structures also send faster electrochemical signals through neurotransmitters, both to organs such as the adrenal gland, which releases hormones, which in turn reach back to the brain, and directly to other brain regions such as the cerebral cortex, the thalamus, and the basal ganglia, thus modifying what Damasio calls the cognitive state.

The major theoretical construct of this work suggests that consciousness is caused by emotion. Consciousness and its substrate of subconscious are an emergent fundamental and phenomenal effect of the evolution of neural mechanisms that enable cognition and language. It is based on preceding subjective emotional experiences and the evolution of their communicative expressions.

We have the feeling that we are today the same person as yesterday we were and tomorrow we shall be. Only what does it mean to be the same person? When we go to sleep, for example, our consciousness is "switched off for a certain amount of time. How do we know it is ``the same when we wake up again? The fact is-it is not the same. The emotions we experience day to day are ever evolving our conscious state as well as the fact that our brains have a phylogenetic continuity. They have developed as an evolutionary response to meet some challenges of some relevant aspects of the environment in which we find ourselves. This phyletic development is an avenue leading to the solution of long-term (survival) problems of the human race. Consciousness is adaptive and ever evolving due to brain structures that cause emotions.

Marijuana Drug

Marijuana is a relatively harmless drug that governments around the world have made illegal. If legalized, marijuana can be beneficial to society in a number of ways whether it be for medical, economic, or public safety reasons. Marijuana has been proven to treat several life debilitating, and even life threatening diseases. Although it is not a cure, marijuana can ease the pain and suffering of a dying person. Another benefit of legalization is the financial gains that governments will accomplish through the taxation of marijuana. This is a realistic claim if marijuana sales are compared to that of cigarettes; governments make billions each year from cigarette taxes (Caputo and Ostrom 484). Every year law enforcement spends countless man-hours trying to apprehend marijuana dealers and growers. This time would be better utilized in dealing with more serious crimes. This essay will display some main reasons why marijuana is a substance with beneficial uses and applications. First, marijuana can be used as a treatment for the effects of diseases such as AIDS, cancer, glaucoma, and other terminal diseases. A study carried out in California clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of marijuana as a treatment for cancer "Over 74 percent of the cancer patients treated in the program have reported that marijuana is more effective in relieving their nausea and vomiting than any other drug they have tried."(Zeese 10). Chemotherapy for cancer patients often produces nausea and vomiting. Marijuana has been proven to relieve these symptoms and there have been no known side effects recorded (Ad Hoc Group of Experts part 4). The people who would benefit the most from the legalization of marijuana are the terminally ill. These people are not criminals at heart, because they only require marijuana as a way to bring relief from their ailments. Moreover, a government should feel obligated to provide terminally ill patients with marijuana to relieve pain. Governments such as Canada and the United States are supposed help its' people, and by legalizing marijuana, many terminally ill citizens will feel less pain and suffering. If marijuana were to become legalized, governments could make a large amount of revenue through taxes. In the United States, billions of dollars each year in revenue are produced through tobacco taxes (Caputo and Ostrom 484). If marijuana became a manufactured product, the government could set taxes on the sale of that product. Once legalized and regulated by the government, the money raised through taxes could be used to improve the country. Moreover, several other things can be produced commercially using the marijuana plant. There is a possible revenue obtainable from hemp, which can be manufactured into clothing material, vegetable oil, paper product, and livestock feed (Caputo and Ostrom 485). If legalized, marijuana has the potential to generate a lot of revenue for a government, and this gained revenue can only help the country. Crime is a problem just about anywhere in Canada and the United States. However, crime enforcement energy is often spent dealing with cases that are not necessary. The police spend useless time trying to arrest marijuana growing and smokers. If marijuana is legalized, drug-fighting resources could be better used against the drug trade of cocaine, heroin, and other dangerous substances. Furthermore, if the government regulated the sale of marijuana, a majority of drug dealers would go out of business. This would decrease the amount of black market drug money, and increase the revenue for the government. Also, legalization of marijuana could also take some pressure off of the court system. The court system would have less cases to deal with, and more important cases could be processed faster. The legalization of marijuana would make Canada and the United States a safer place to live, because law enforcement would be directed fully at the true criminals in society. Marijuana is a substance with many useful applications in Canada and the United States. It has been proven to be a great treatment for the pain and discomfort of terminally ill patients. Legalization would make marijuana easily accessible to these people. Also, if the government would legalize and regulate the sale of marijuana, large tax revenues could be available to the government. This increased revenue could help the country become a better place to live, whether it be through improved highways or new schools. Legalizing marijuana would take pressure off of the legal system. Law enforcement could concentrate on severe criminal problems, rather than getting overloaded with marijuana cases. All of these benefits are from a simple plant called marijuana, and yet the government will not allow their country to enjoy all of the good things that could come out of the legalization of this crop.

"The Walam Olum" by the Delaware and "The Navajo Origin Legend" by the Navajo, tell the creation beliefs of each of the cultures. The creation beliefs contained in "The Walam Olum" and in "The Navajo Origin Legend" are different because of the syntax and detail of each myth, and because of the role of nature and the role the of the gods in the creations.

"The Walam Olum" by the Delaware has a basic syntax. However, the simplicity of the syntax does not diminish the message of creation how, "…the great Manito, a manito to manitos, to beings, mortals souls and all" (page 15) created all things. The Delaware believed that Manito "…made the extended land and the sky…the sun, the moon, the stars… made them all move evenly" (page 15) and that He also "gave the first mother, the mother of beings. He gave the fish, he gave the turtles, he gave the beasts, he gave the birds… to those very first men, and to those first mothers; fetched them wives…all had cheerful knowledge, all had leisure, all thought in gladness" (page 15-16). The syntax in "The Walam Olum" is not hindered by unnecessary or complicated information and excessive detail. It is plain that the Delaware believed a great Manito made all things, and they did not need to use complicated terms to get their message across.

"The Navajo Origin Legend" has a more complex syntax and more detail than that of the Delaware's " The Walam Olum." However, in being more complex and detailed, "The Navajo Origin Legend" contains more information on the ceremonial aspect of human creation " The gods laid one buckskin on the ground with the head to the west…they spread the other buckskin with its head to the east…The white wind blew from the east, and the yellow wind blew from the west, between the skins…When the Mirage People had finished their walk the upper buckskin was lifted…a man and woman lay there…" (page 1). It also presents no information about the creation of things surrounding the first being, such as the land and the animals. The Navajo also include many unnecessary facts that have no effect or connection to the creation process, such as " On the morning of the twelfth day the people washed themselves well" (page 18). Many times less detail is better than too much.

The role of nature in "The Walam Olum" is minimal while the role of the god, Manito, is large. The Delaware believe that man was made by Manito, and even of Manito as is evident when the myth states "Anew spoke the great Manito, a manito to manitos, to beings, mortals, souls and all, and ever after he was a manito to men and their grandfather" (page 15). According to "The Walam Olum", nature is created to supply the being and to surround him, it is given to the beings by Manito, " He gave the fish, he gave the turtles, he gave the beasts, he gave the birds" (page 15).

Unlike "The Walam Olum" the role of nature in "The Navajo Origin Legend" is significant and the role of the four gods are minimal. The first man and woman are made out of nature with little help from the four gods, "The gods laid one buckskin on the ground with the head to the west; on this they placed two ears of corn…they spread the other buckskin with its head to the east…The white wind blew from the east, and the yellow wind blew from the west, between the skins…When the Mirage People had finished their walk the upper buckskin was lifted; the ears of corn had disappeared, man and woman lay there in their stead" (page 1). The wind plays a very important part in that the Navajo believe "it was the wind that gave them life. It is the wind that comes out of our mouths now that gives us life. When this ceases to blow we die." (page 1).

"The Walam Olum" and "The Navajo Origin Legend" differ greatly in the way they are written and in the way details are shared. The Delaware prefer a simple myth to the detail-oriented creation myth of the Navajo. Also, the Delaware believe their monotheistic god, Manito played a larger role in the creation, while the Navajo prefer to say the influence of nature played the bigger part. The Delaware and the Navajo are very different people with, according to their creation myths, very different backgrounds.

Girls who wear glasses

How many people do you know who wear glasses? I think that there

are a huge number of people. And people who don't, some have perfect vision and

some prefer contacts. My essay will be about people who wear glasses. I've chosen this subject because I'm very concerned about this matter. I have to wear glasses and I used to don't wear them. Why did I decide to focus on girls? Because I am one of them and because there are some stereotypes about girls wearing glasses. I also want to discuss other opportunities of vision correction, which allow to don't wear glasses.

Order essays on Girls who wear glasses and other topics

I did a little research on the Internet. I found out, that most of younger people now require prescription glasses to correct their eyesight. The study, conducted by the method of interview, shows, that one in five (1 per cent) 16-4 year-olds and just over one third (4 per cent) of 5-4 year-olds wear prescription glasses. Surely, that research was conducted in some group of people, and I think, that even more people wear glasses. Other source tells, that 16 million people in the U.S. wear glasses or contacts.

How do they feel about wearing glasses? The result of research shows, that younger adults are most likely to attribute 'attractiveness' to people who wear glasses. Fifty per cent of women aged 16-4 years old and 44 per cent of men aged 5-4 years old agree that wearing glasses can make a person look more attractive.

Sysko

In contrast, older people are less likely to associate glasses with attractiveness. Only one in five (1 per cent) 55-64 year-olds agree that wearing glasses can make someone look attractive and three-quarters of women aged over 65 years old think that it is 'strange for people to wear glasses for appearance rather than to correct eyesight'.

Some people believe that it is some charm in wearing glasses. Some even wear them only for appearance. In women magazines you can find pictures of beautiful

women with glasses. You can also find a lot of advises how to do makeup for eyeglasses and how to chose frame. Some people have another point of view about it. It is, that girls who wear glasses are not attractive. A girl has to take off her glasses, before a guy will take notice. But sometimes it can results not in a success, but she can bump into things and doesn't even see whom she is flirting with.

Another stereotype is, that girls with glasses are smart, and they spend all their time at the books or at the computer screens. Probably, it makes some sense, but I am not completely agree with this. Usually people who study a lot really need glasses. But it is not saying you need glasses to be smart. You just look smart with glasses. And conversely, there are plenty of people with glasses who aren't smart.

What can I say from my own experience? I believed a long time, that wearing glasses was unattractive. I was nearsighted since the 5th grade, but I'd rather squint to see something, that to put my glasses on. I couldn't explain why, but I didn't like to wear my glasses and I didn't want to wear contacts. I was afraid about it. When I was learning to drive, I didn't have a choice any more, because I couldn't see anything on

the road. But I put them only when I was driving. My friends sometimes got mad with me, when I passed by them without saying "hi". When I started to work as a cashier at a store, it was really hard time to me. It was really hard to don't make mistakes and to give right change to customers. My managers advised me to wear glasses, it would make my work much easier. It took a while, but I started to wear glasses all the days. My friends were excited about it. "Nice glasses", "They make you look so cute", "You look prettier with your glasses that without them!" They said it to me every time they saw me. And I still don't know if it was true or they just would encourage me. But anyway, now I feel OK about wearing glasses. I feel very happy to see everything clearly.

However I feel great, I am excited about progress of medicine. Now I am interested in a new method of vision correction-laser surgery. For me it is very new, a little bit scary, but very seductive. "For the 16 million people in the U.S. who wear glasses or contacts, LASIK is truly a dream come true. Imagine Seeing the alarm clock in the morning Enjoying skiing, swimming, and playing tennis without relying on glasses or contacts. You will not believe your eyes! Experience the freedom of seeing the world through your eyes, not through your glasses or contacts. Your eyes provide you with a window to the world. In a matter of minutes, laser vision correction can make your dream come true." After reading this advertising you will have a desire to experience this freedom. For me now it is the thing, I want to know more about it, and, maybe, one day to try it.

Personal Goals Paper

What do individuals want to get out of life? This is a hard question for many people to answer. So many have never had to sit down and think about what they really want. It's easier to know what other people want of you and not what you want of yourself. Finding my personal goals wasn't easy for me to do either. I have decided I want to stay happy and energetic about my career path I have chosen. My career choice must be well paid for my family and I to stay financially stable. I also aim to keep my relationship intimate throughout life. I want to strive in keeping myself active by staying physically fit so others accept me. I approached my personal goals by using the five different areas involving parts of my life and values. The five life areas are personal, family, school/career, financial, and lifestyle. All five areas are interconnected and will affect each other.

Personal goals should be examined daily, for they may change due to circumstances happening in your life. Keeping them updated will help you stay on track to accomplish your goals, short-term or long-term.

A chart with all five life areas will help you fill in important goals to reflect values you hold for yourself. The goals can and should be changed or updated as events change in your life. As long-term goals are tracked, they will change through each stage in your life. Goals I had as a teenager are not the same as the goals I have for myself today. Goals I have now as a student at University of Phoenix will not be the same as the goals I will have as a mother and even as a grandmother. As I age, my goals and value will change. Some may stay the same, but many will change and need reevaluated.

Write my paper on Personal Goals for me

First, I have established a goal toward personal. I would love to keep my body tone and attractive. In order to do this I must stay on a good diet. I need to keep myself active in some way so I don't resort to eating something because I have nothing better to do. I have a training room at work I am going to use everyday for at least and hour. Keeping this schedule will help me accomplish this long-term goal. My second goal is in family. I want to spend more time with my parents. I recently moved out of my parent's home the first of 00 and moved in with my fianc. I am the youngest of three children and I am the last the leave. My sister lives in Phoenix, Arizona, and my brother is in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I still live close enough to visit, but never do. My mom calls all the time asking me to do things with her and I put her off. It makes me sad to hear how lonely she is without any of her children around. I am trying to keep a schedule of days to spend with my parents. Making specific days to go makes it easier to do because it becomes a part of my weekly schedule. Every Sunday my fiancand I go to his parent for dinner, so I chose every Saturday afternoon to spend with my parents. Third, is my school/career goal. I want to finish my bachelor's from University of Phoenix. Each day I decided I need to read every chapter assigned to keep me active in my class work along with finishing all assignments with ample time before the day of my class. To be satisfied with this accomplishment, I require myself to pass each class with a B average or better. If I stay on track with my studies, I can move closer to finishing this goal. This is a number one priority for me. Financial is the next goal. I enrolled at University of Phoenix to get my bachelor's degree so I can move up in my present company. I want to be prepared for any opportunity that may arise. I don't want to pass up an important position because I have no qualifications. I want to eventually be considered an important aspect for the Government. Without the ability to move up in my position, I will not be able to provide for my family. This is very important to me; it is also a number one priority. Lastly is my lifestyle goal. Having an intimate relationship is important to me. A family should stay together and show their love everyday. I want to be a minority in this country and not get a divorce. Too many people divorce and it's not fair for the families created by the marriage. Each day I will always say, "I love you" to my significant other. I will set aside alone time to spend with him to talk or sit quietly watching a late night movie. I want to be happy and without communication, togetherness, and love, it will never work.

You can see how every life area is tied together. Without my school/career goal, I will not accomplish my financial area. Without my personal goal, my lifestyle goal may not be as healthy as I want. All five goals need to be worked towards and modified as needed to keep you looking forward to the future. So what do you want to get out of life? Is it as hard as it seems, or do we make it hard because of our fear of failure? Accomplishing your goals is hard and failure may become an opstical. I look over my goals and mission often to keep me pushing harder to overcome the fear of failure.

At the end of the Great War of 11, the world looked to bring peace and stability into Europe. The big five powers set to hold Germany responsible for causing the war and to pay for all damages caused. Also they wanted to make sure that Germany was never able to reach the peak it was during the Great War.

The Treaty of Versailles was a 448 article was produced holding Germany liable for all aggressions caused and held impunity until 10, a year later in Washington the nine great powers gathered to produce the Washington Naval Treaty, this was a treaty of limitations on one of their greatest assets, the capital warship.

By 14 Germany with Hitler at full control of the mighty German war machine, the treaty of Versailles was completely dead. It was designed to make Germany pay and never reach its full strength but only two decades later it was stronger than ever and the will of the German people was more determined than ever. Japan had also killed the Washington Naval treaty by increasing their warships against the quota and had many territorial gains. This was just the start of the collapse of the "New World Order"

Why had Germany risen up against the Treaty of Versailles? Germany was humiliated to the world, and the people of Germany resented the Treaty very much, they were limited in their capacity to build up a military and had to pay large reparations to other countries such as France, Britain, US and Italy. One thing was that the treaty wasn't that well done, Germany was still allowed to keep the massive gold reserve, little land was lost and still remained one of the largest nations in Europe.

Cheap research paper on The Treaty of Versailles

The Great depression came and swept the world like wild fire, Hitler sized this opportunity and all the problems in Germany during the Weimar Republic. Moral in Germany was low, unemployment was high and the people of Germany wanted a change. Hitler gave them that change and made the Jews the scape goat of all problems. No one paid attention of the new wave sweeping Germany as other countries were worried about their own domestic problems. Hitler set to rebuild Germany which met no resistance from other countries.

By 15, Hitler had pulled out of the League of Nations and told he will run Germany him self. The Treaty of Versailles wasn't well enforced as the US never joined it, the USSR was evolved in its own revolution and most important the US being an economic power, they never ratified the Treaty of Versailles. The US and Britain pledged to come to France's aid if ever attacked but the US never signed the treaty so the US never had any obligation to help France and with no US, Britain could not honor her part of the deal to help France.

Britain then let Germany build up her navy to 5% of the British Navy and of course Germany agreed. France felt left out of this and became wary of German actions next door. Disagreements between the great world powers let Hitler to do what he wants and in 16 he marched his army straight into the Rhineland and no opposition was met.

In August 1, the USSR joined Germany in non-aggression pact which worried Britain and France as this left Poland in very shaky grounds. Hitler marched through Poland and met the USSR half way there, France was taken in 140 and defeated in 5 days and no Britain was left alone to face the might of the Germany military.

Stalin supplied Hitler with oil until June 140 when Hitler decided to invade the USSR, most of Europe was under Hitler's control and it looked like no one could stop Germany. Japan on the other side of the world had made massive gains. A tripartite pact was signed in September 140 between Italy, Germany and Japan and agreed to set up the "New Order."

The New World Order did not entirely collapse under the force of nation sates, its own shortcomings contributed to its downfall. There were no means to rehabilitate and limit Germany potential for belligerency. Germany lost little in terms of territory, in the Versailles peace, as Germany still remained one of the larges nations in Europe. The Versailles peace was too harsh; it made no effort to rehabilitate Germany.

The City of Winnipeg Smoking By-Law The by-law that was passed by city council in July is subject to a number of interpretations and is also subject to a variety of enforcement standards. This is a totally unfair bylaw which makes one set of rules for bars and another for restaurants with liquor licenses and yet another for unlicensed restaurants. Let's look at a number of scenarios to try to clear the muddy waters. I have an unlicensed restaurant… what can I do? OPTION 1 You can go 100 % non smoking, which is the intent of the bylaw or OPTION You can ban anyone under the age of 18 from coming in and have 100% smok- ing or you can declare any other ratio that you decide. Ie. 50 50 Problem Legal opinion says that this may be challengeable under Human Rights, but we are banning under 18 from lounges and casinos already. It is not legal to buy ciga rettes, drink or gamble under 18 and the city is saying that they shouldn't be in any area that has smoke. OPTION You can apply for a dining room and cocktail lounge license. You would make applica- tion to the Manitoba Liquor Commission to get a license for your premises. The desig- nated cocktail lounge would ban under 18 and would have smoking allowed. You would have the option of selling liquor or not. If you take this route and want to serve custom ers before 00 A.M., which is the earliest that lounges are able to open, you would need to apply for written permission from the MLCC. I am told that it should not be a problem to get this permission. Problem It is costly and time consuming to get a license and part of your establishment might have to be reconfigured to identify the cocktail lounge area. OPTION 4 Some establishments that have two clearly separated areas are going to have one area as a restricted area and have smoking in that section. Whether this is legal or not is a gray area, but when you consider the level playing field scenario you would think that it shouldn't be necessary to get a liquor license to compete on a level playing field with licensed restaurants. OPTION 5 Another "gray area" option is timed restrictions. Example You have non smoking be- tween the hours of 500 P.M. and 00 P.M. and after 00 P.M. no one under 18 is allowed to come in and smoking is allowed. I have a licensed restaurant…..what can I do? You are allowed to have smoking in your lounge as long as you do not allow anyone under 18 in that area. Some other possible problems may arise if people have to go through your smoking area to get to your washrooms or to the non smoking area. Lounges do not have to be walled off, but an effort should be made to minimize drifting of smoke. Within this area you can designate it as 100% smoking or any other ratio that you decide. If you have a lounge that borders closely on a dining room you might take reasonable steps to control drifting of smoke by declaring the area in the lounge which borders on the dining room as a non smoking area. What are the restaurants obligations under this bylaw? Your only obligations under this bylaw are to designate the areas as you are defining them and to post non smoking signs in the applicable areas. A customer smoking in a non smoking area is subject to a fine not the restaurant. The problem with this scenario is that if you do nothing about the smoker you will anger the non smoking customers around them. Your role is not one of an enforcer under the bylaw, but you are forced into this role by good business rules. Other info These rules apply only to the public areas of the restaurant. You can still have a smoking staff room. Banquet rooms….If you have a party booking a private room for a banquet which is a social event that room can have smoking and children present, but if it is for business purposes (which ironically would have adults only % of the time) must be smoke free. Hint You might consider booking business meetings followed by social events separately if the customer wants a smoking event. Enforcement This by-law comes into effect January 1, 00 and enforcement of this bylaw is being headed up by Brian Rivet (86-67) of the City of Winnipeg Environmental Health Department. This bylaw applies to all of the city, but the enforcement will be concentrated in the Greater Winnipeg area looked after by the city health department. The province has stated that it will not be adding any staff to enforce the bylaw in the other areas. Enforcement in these areas will probably be only by customer complaint. Challenging the by-law There is a possible challenge to this by-law based on the fact that the City may not have the power to pass a bylaw which has exclusions. This means that any bylaw passed would have to cover all public places, which would create a far more level playing field. This would require a court challenge which would be costly and we would have to call on our members for support in this matter. Please keep in touch with me on this issue and how it is affecting you. If you have any concerns regarding the enforcement please call. Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year. Man and animals have walked this planet Earth together for millions of years. But God made Man smarter than the other species. A race that could make up for their lack of physical strength with their incredible mental capabilities. A race that could survive in almost anywhere in the world given the necessary resources. A race that grew up to be proud and arrogant of their superiorities, such that they began to make use of the other creatures to do their bidding. To carry logs, or for ridiculous health products or as vehicles. But by far, I believe the most humiliating purpose is the usage of animals as toys for our own pleasure and entertainment. I believe animals should not be used for the entertainment of humans. My argument will prove how inhumane this act is and that it merely portrays a barbaric and uncivilized image of Mankind that Man constantly denies.

One might argue that we use animals for entertainment because of our fascination for them and that we respect them, which is why we want to show them to the society, to be awed by their beauty. But is it proper to lock them up in cages or to deny them the freedom they were meant to be born into or make them do silly, humiliating juggling acts? This, obviously, does not prove our admiration and fascination in anyway but it only shows that we wish to humiliate them as much as possible, almost as though we hate them. We use them as entertainers in circuses and at zoos where they are openly humiliated. But why should we care, the creatures won't understand this humility. Whether or not these animals do understand this humility or not, this situation can be likened to a situation where by a boy insults a deaf man right in front of him. While the deaf man may not know he is being foul-mouthed, it is more of a matter or moral integrity and being civilized. Similarly, we must act as the civilized race we claim to be.

While humility of the animals is one thing, a more serious issue is the fact that in the process of getting these animals to entertain us, we actually are harming them in a variety of ways. For example, in one occasion, animals from a Spanish circus were being transported by ship to Indonesia for a show. Apparently a container went missing and the animals in it had to endure two weeks of unbearable heat and hardly any water or food. By the time they were found, most of the animals were either dead or dying. But often, this pain is not inflicted accidentally but also on purpose. During circuses, to make tigers stand on their hind legs and walk on them, trainers sometimes burn their fore legs to prevent them from using them. Elephants are drugged and hurt by being stabbed or being electrocuted to make them more docile and to make them follow instructions without striking back. It is a complete infringement on animal rights and it is simply barbaric and cannot be allowed to go on!

Animals may be less smart than Man, but that does not give us the right to make use of them as toys to entertain us when we feel like it. If that is the case, why not we use people with mental retardation or people with mental problems to entertain us because of their lack of mental capacity. We do not do this because they are our own kind and only we have the right to do this. Similarly, who gives us the right to control the destiny of another animal not even of human race?

Zoos have recently been seen as a place where animals can be bred and protected from the harsh world outside, but I feel the opposite is occurring. By placing them in zoos, we are removing their freedom they were born with. Instead every moment of the day, they have got people watching their every move. Furthermore, in contrary to the fact animals are kept in the zoo to breed, animals seem to breed a lot less while in captivity than when in the wild. When they are released into captivity, they cannot survive for long because all the skills of survival in their habitats have either been forgotten or not even taught in the first place. As a result, these points prove that the zoo has been quite unsuccessful in their missions.

At the end of it all, it will occur in one's mind that animals are not iven a choice in the forst place to make this their lives. They get caught when the young or when a bit older but they are not give a choice, which is unlike human entertainers, where they agree to it and perform.

As you can see in the argument I have put forward so far, the usage of animals for our entertainment is uncivilized, barbaric and inhumane. I hope that together, we as humans, can stop this childish act and understand that animals, while they not be as mentally capable, demand a certain amount of due respect.

Refinishing hardwood floors is hard work and costly. Some people opt to hire a professional, but most of the equipment is available at your local hardware store and rental center and the steps are staightforward. Refinishing floors requires many steps.

The first step is to move your furniture to another room or outside. Then remove the existing floor. Remove anything that isnt nailed down and sweep the floor thoroughly. Remove any leftover carpet staples with diagonal pliers. Use a hammer and nailset to sink any exposed nails that may damage the abrasives or sanding machines. Leave the baseboards unless you plan to replace them. If so, use a shim behind the pry bar to avoid damaging the walls. Next, to avoid spreading dust, hang plastic covering over the doorways and place towels under the doors and over the vents. Lastly, walk the whole floor checking for squeaks, cracks, and any other repairs that should be done before sanding.

Next, you will need the necessary equipment to refinish the floors. You will need a putty knife for filling gaps and cracks. There really isnt a definitive procedure for filling cracks. Its up to the individual to decide which cracks to fill, just make sure they are filled before beginning to sand.

After filling in the cracks its time to sand the floors. Sanding is a very dusty job, you will want to wear a dust mask. Also ask for instructions and a demonstration on how to operate the equipment. First use a drum sander fit with coarse paper. Start the sander off the floor and slowly lower it onto the floor. Simutaneously walk the sander forward going with the grain of the wood, unless the floor is badly warped. In that case, sand diagonally to the wood grain. Sand from wall to wall on about one-half of the room, making a forward and backward pass. Never let the sander sit in one spot, it will make a gouge or swirl mark in seconds. Wher the drum sander cant reach, such as wall edges and corners, use a edge sander. Slowly lower it to the floor and use a left to right semi-circular motion to feather out the sanding. After the rough sanding, change to a medium grit and sand the entire floor the same way. For the final sanding us a fine grit. Vacuum the entire room, including the walls and ceilings. Avoid using a damp rag because moisture will cause the exposed wood to rise.

When the room is clean its time to select a stain. Oil-based stains are the most popular. They are reliable and available in a variety of colors, and for the time being, the better choice of stains. Water-based stains are just in the beginning stages of development. Whichever type of stain is chosen always follow the directions, note the drying times and test the stain on a scrap piece of wood before applying it to the floor. Before applying the stain, make sure you are working in a ventilated area. Because many products produce harmful vapors. Staining an entire floor goes faster with two people, one applying the stain and the other wiping off the excess. Using a rag, apply the stain, cutting in from the corners and going with the grain of the wood. Wipe off any excess and change rags often. Let the stain dry overnight and avoid walking on the floor. After the stain has dried, select your finish. There are two basic types of finishes, polyurethane and water-based urethane. Polyurethane is the most commonly used, but cures out slowly. However, it usually only takes two to three coats to get a nice finish. Water-based urethane is less toxic, but thinner and it takes three or more coats. When you have selected a finish, apply with a foam applicator. Avoid drips and thick overlaps. Start at the farthest point from the doorway and apply an even coat. Work with the wood grain in five inch sections. Let dry for twenty-four hours. Use a damp cloth to wipe away any dust and apply the final coat just like the previous one. Stay off the finish and avoid stirring up any dust while the finish cures.

After you have finished and see the results, all the hard work was well worth it. Not only does it make the whole house look better, its also a great investment.

Separation of church and state

Separation of Church and State is a very imperative and principle part of our political, legal, and historical heritage. A "wall of separation" between Church and State was established in the first amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. This amendment guarantees religious freedom for all. Church and State, should, unquestionably, remain as two separate institutions that are in no way intertwined with the other.

As early as the reign of Constantine, the Emperor of the Roman Empire, the issue of Church and State was very prevalent. However, during this time, as well as previously, Church and State were connected. The emperors before Constantine were pagans and made paganism the official religion of the Roman Empire. However, Constantine prayed to the Christian God for help in a battle and ended up winning. As a result of this life-altering event, or change of heart, Constantine became the first Christian Emperor and allowed Christians to practice freely in his Empire through the Edict of Milan in 1 C.E. This precedent angered and astonished many people; however the Christians could now worship freely without having to worry about persecution.

Throughout Constantine's rule, he became involved in church matters and tried to run the church. This is because he, just like those before him, saw religion as a way of unifying all of the people under his rule.

Constantine, through his reign as Emperor, had one of the biggest effects ever on Christianity. Christianity was once powerless and poor, but at that time it became amalgamated with the biggest force known to man. As head of the Empire, Constantine was admired and looked up to by many. His role as ruler, more than likely, opened people's eyes to a religion that was once illegal and frowned upon by past emperors. As a result of the influence of Constantine, Christianity became more accepted and practiced.

Essay help on separation of church and state

Although connecting Church and State proved to be a tremendous political maneuver for the growth and proliferation of Christianity, the Church and State should stay separated. One of the main reasons for this argument is that it will attract some power hungry people to the religious profession. Also, it could cause priests that were already in the vocation to become corrupt. A priest's number one concern should be spreading the Word of God to those around him; However, he should not have to worry about what his views on a current presidential candidate, for example, should be.

Church and State should also not be connected because not all people share our belief in God or the beliefs in the basic tenets of Catholicism. This would be very unfair for those people because if these two were united, then everything going on in this country would, in some way, deal with the beliefs upheld by the Church. Also, if they were united, it would cause disunity through out our country because many people would feel aloof and separated from the country.

My personal political views are affected by my religious views. This is because I believe that it is necessary for those who run the government to share the same views as myself. Many of these views, however, are ones that are commonly up for debate by religious and political leaders.

One of these views that are highly controversial is the issue of whether those at public schools should have to say prayers during the school day. Prayers should not be said at public schools. Although, in the perfect world, it would be great if everyone could pray together at a public institution, it would be considered unconstitutional if this did occur. It would also be very biased if prayers were said in public schools because not all people that follow a religion say the same prayers as we do.

Church and State is a very complex and controversial topic. During the times of Emperor Constantine, the two institutions were connected, which proved to be a very great tactic for the growth of the Church. However, Church and State, as declared in the Constitution should stay separated.
