Beggar's Opera Theme

In my opinion, the theme in Beggar's Opera seems to be operating on self-interest. As the old saying goes, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, is basically the position that most of the characters take on.

One of the most prominent examples of this is with Macheath. He portrayed a prime minister of the times on one hand and on the other he was a masterful thief who was occasionally caught but always managed a skillful escape. On page 58, Gay shows that Macheath is acting for the "gangs" self interest when he says, "Business cannot go on without him. He is a man who knows the world, and is a necessary agent to us…" Gay also shows other characters that convey this theme through this method. Peachum being the next most prominent character speaks this way many times as if he knows no other way. A few of these examples are listed on pages 575, 578 and 581. "…Besides, here the law allows us no reward; there is nothing to be got by the death of a womanexcept our wives." "…how shall we be safe? Are we not then in her husband's power?" "And Macheath may hang his father and mother-in-law, in hope to get into their daughter's fortune." Mrs. Peachum also shows this self-interest. "…he's [Bob Booty] a favorite customer of mine. 'Twas he made me a present of this ring." (576). On page 581 she says, "Then all the hopes of our family are gone forever and ever!"

Sweet innocent Polly even gets to utter words deemed full of self-interest. Just after Mr. and Mrs. Peachum declare their self-interest on page 581, Polly breaks in with "…But, I love him." Again she does this on 584, " But I love him, Sir how then could I have thoughts of parting with him?" Even a character with so few lines such as Matt is seeded with this theme on page 588. "…I know about this time there will be passengers upon the Western Road, who are worth speaking with." Another prime example is Lockit on page 56 when he makes sure the contract is directly split between him and Peachum. Vixen is quoted as a theme spreader too. On 5, "…as we were all assisting, we ought all to share alike."

These are just a sampling Gay's theme of self-interest. There are far more to inference. These are just the most direct in relaying self-interest in the theme

Order makes a society run in harmony, and without it there would be chaos. It comprises of laws which the people in the society have agreed and accepted. A society is a group of people that live similar lives. They obey the rules and regulations made by the society and often support each other, which helps them keep the order. In Tomorrow When the War Began 7 teenagers go out on a camping trip but when they return home they find their society, which they've lived in their whole lives, broken down and stolen. They are forced to flee and create their own society or they too will be captured and imprisoned like the rest of the town. In the Shawshank Redemption, Andy, a married, successful man with a bright future is sentenced to 50 years in jail for the murder of his wife and her lover. He is then forced to live in a new society with a new harsh freedom less order. These media are linked by the sudden change of order & society and how they adjust to it. When Elle in Tomorrow When the War Began is sitting there watching the stars, it creates a peaceful scene which symbolizes the teenagers society they originally lived in. Then came a humming noise which Elle quotes as "artificial," being the noises of the planes carrying the invaders. The artificial noise informs the reader that it doesn't belong to the peaceful scene, symbolizing the invaders arrival. At this point the society that the teenagers have been living in has just entirely changed, yet they are all still unaware. They are going to have to soon adjust to an aspect of life they've never been exposed to, survival. In The Shawshank Redemption there is a similar scene also symbolizing the point of change to the characters order & society. When Andy walks into Shawshank the old, heavy doors close behind, thus symbolizing the end of his society which his lived in his whole life, and the beginning of his new harsh, dismal life in his new society. These scenes link by using the technique of symbolism. The concept of an abrupt change from a peaceful, happy society running in harmony to a rough, unpleasant society is used in the text and the film. In conclusion these media have concentrated mainly on informing the viewer & reader of the enormous impact of changing order & society can be to a person.

Joseph Conrad was born no ordinary man; rather, Conrad was born an idealistic aristocrat who educated himself into a very enlightened man. He was a strong man in his morals that believed that "the object of life was the perfection of individual conduct- the education of man's spirit." Individuals that knew Conrad stated that he "seemed to understand everything." In his perpetual understanding and search for perfection he came to the conclusion that "the sane view of life is not a matter of compromise." Conrad believed "every work of art had a profound moral significance;" therefore, he consistently wore himself thin trying to arrange his words in such a way as that they would "glow." Conrad would sometimes work so vigorously that he would become sickly with a fever. Conrad also never allowed himself to rely on memory for the setting of his story because he thoroughly believed in the "absorption, and the collection, of on the spot characteristic detail." Because of his sometimes blinding commitment to his work, Conrad is sometimes said to be " the undeviating artist, unsatisfied, treating his novels as so many surmounted obstacles on the path of an endless quest; impatient of admiration- as of so much else-yet never in doubt of the essential truth of his vision." Conrad once said, "I can't get anything out of myself quickly, it takes me a year of agony to make something like a book- generally longer. And, my dear fellow, when it is done there are not more than twenty people who understand." Perhaps that is the reason Conrad was well on his way to 40 before he published his first book. Although it is sometimes questioned whether "Conrad would have gained both in credit and in popularity if he had written what he had to written without incessant care for appearances." His stories most often developed into "political parables" filled with symbolism, although he never includes a plot; rather Conrad uses one of his "inextricable tricks of art, bye which suspense is scarcely concerned with actions, but with a gradually revealed knowledge of what might have happened in the making of a man…" " In General, Critical esteem of Conrad's work has scarcely wavered, few judges today would seek to set aside Dr. Leavis's verdict that Conrad is the outstanding exemplar in generation of the English novel's "great tradition."

The movie "My Fair Lady" satisfies the four elements that define fine arts. These elements include music, dance art and drama. Although the movie is set in a different time period, it still manages to successfully convey the important facets of fine arts.

The movie "My Fair Lady" is a 160's musical, originally adapted from a play, Pygmalion. There are several different types of music included in the film. For example, one of the romantic songs is "I Could Have Danced All Night", which is sung by Eliza Doolittle. While there are quite a few romantic songs, the movie also includes witty songs, such as "I'm Just an Ordinary Man". Overall, the music in the film was excellent and made it enjoyable for the viewer.

The movie also presents very strong dramatic tendencies. The actors do an excellent job in bringing the original Broadway play to life. Audrey Hepburn, for example, does an excellent job playing the young, illiterate flower girl Eliza Doolittle. In addition, Rex Harrison does and amazing job playing the professor of phonetics, Henry Higgins. Everything from the plot, to the costumes, to the background music, adds to the drama of the film.

The movie also demonstrates art through several sets, costumes and lighting. Art is very easily recognizable and plays an important role in the movie. For Example, the interior of Higgins's house, such as the library with its sliding ladder, represents a popular style of architecture for the time. Also, the difference in Eliza's outfits beginning from when she was a poor flower girl, to when she became a duchess, demonstrates the different levels of style in society.

There are a few dance numbers involved in the movie "My fair Lady". Many of these are performed individually, rather than involving the entire cast. Dance is used in the movie to show the growth of relationship between Eliza and Higgins. Dance is also used as part of Eliza's education, when she must learn how to dance like a duchess.

From art to music, the movie "My Fair Lady" is a very good example of all the different aspects of fine arts. Though considered a musical film, "My fair Lady" also contains classic musical ideas, as well as important ideas about art in general. Due to its adaptation from a play, "My Fair Lady" contains excellent examples of drama, dance and music. Art is also represented very well due to the costumes and sets of this time period.

Please note that this sample paper on My Fair Lady is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on My Fair Lady, we are here to assist you. Part Two

The first example of a many to many relationship is that each order that is placed by the customers will contain several lines (or at least one line) that list what item was ordered, how many of that item were ordered, and so on. Each item for sale may appear on more than one order. So there is a many-to-many relationship between the order and products entities. The second example of a many to many relationship is in a library, customers can borrow many books and each book can be borrowed by many customers, so this seems to be a simple many-to-many relationship between customers and books.

Two examples of ternary relationships (single relationship between three tables) are

1. Shipment, Supplier, Part

. Customer, Order, Salesman

One ternary relation that exists is the relationships between the supplier, products and the order details table. A supplier provides the product that then becomes part of the order. Another ternary relationship that exists is the customer, employees and sales territory tables. A customer purchases from an employee who services a sales area. The third ternary relationship that exists is the relationship between the ship, customers and order tables. The customers set up a shipping preferred shipping method from the available shipping methods and the order dictates the method.

Property in Wyoming

My property in Wyoming is special to me because of the scenery and peacefulness.

When ever I need a break from reality I can always go up there and lose myself with hard

work and rewarding outcomes. To the West are the mountains and Laramie Peak; to the

South is the little town of Wheatland, population of 5,000; to the East is Grey Rocks

Lake; and to the North is a valley full of cattle and many other farm animals.

When my father first bought the property eight years ago, there was nothing but

three humongous oaks, seventy acres of fields, and a road that is two-thirds a mile long.

Within a few years, we built a barn. That took a good six months to build. We lived in a

truck camper while we built the barn, always cooking on the grill and sometimes going

into town to get some fast food. Then a few more years later we started to build a house.

We built it ground-up, it was a lot of fun learning how to build anything and just knowing

that you built your own house was very rewarding. We finally had a place to live. No one

had ever been in the house before us. It felt nice to know that we started with nothing and

blossomed.

During the summer my dad and I bale up hay to let the land pay for itself. We have

two tractors, one for me and one for him, a baler, stacker, and a swather. The swather is

used to mow/cut down the field when it is ready to be done. Then we let the hay dry for

about a week to make sure that when we bale it up the bales aren't moldy. I'm normally

the one to bale up the hay. That's my equipment to play with. Then after the hay is all

baled up my dad goes around with the stacker and picks up the bales. I think it's funny

how the land can pay for itself, I guess it's a farmer thing.

The land by the way is beautiful. The valley is a perfect place to go and think about

anything, especially when you need to answer a question that has been bothering you. It is

perfect for painting a scenery or landscape because it is forever changing. During daytime,

the grass is green, yellow, and sometimes during the droughts, brown. Then at night, the

sunsets are many different colors. Some nights it is purple and pink or orange and red. The

best thing about the sunsets are that they are never the same color or look. The clouds are

magnificent with the sunsets. They make you feel like your on another planet. I guess the

ever-changing seasons and colors are what make the farm in Wyoming my special place.
