Marijuana laws in this country should be reformed. Shared by many Americans, Keith Stroup founded the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana laws or NORML in 170. NORML views the laws against the possession and sale of marijuana as unfair and works to reform them. In the thirty-two year history of the organization, Keith, along with the other reformers, has made little headway on in this war on drugs. The reformers of NORML work diligently day in and day out to get justice for responsible pot smokers in a society where marijuana smoking appears taboo for many citizens. According to NORML, half a million US citizens get arrested each year on marijuana offenses.

NORML's main purpose, "lobby in Congress and state legislatures for more rational and cost-effective marijuana policies," has other sub-purposes as well. (NORML home) NORML also provides legal assistance, in the form of expert witnesses and criminal attorneys specializing in the defense of marijuana crimes. (NORML Home) Along with attorneys, NORML also provides testimony to help offenders defend themselves in a court of law. This not-for-profit organization also serves as a marijuana law reform advocate with the media nationwide. The mission statement of NORML, adopted by the board of directors February 7, 1, to move public opinion sufficiently to achieve the repeal of marijuana prohibition so that the responsible use of cannabis by adults is no longer subject to penalty, says what the organization strives to achieve. (NORML home)

Across the nation, NORML works for the decriminalization of marijuana for recreational and medical use. NORML believes, "All penalties should be eliminated for responsible use." (NORML home) Not only does NORML believe in marijuana decriminalization, but the organization also believes that by doing this, "the crime, corruption, and violence caused by the 'black market' would see a significant reduction due to a legally regulated market […] where consumers could buy marijuana in a safe and secure environment." (NORML home) NORML also works toward the "legalization of hemp, non-psychoactive marijuana, for industrial use." (NORML home)

In terms of national effort, NORML has recently released a half million-dollar ad campaign aimed at getting the word to the masses that you can still achieve success if you smoke marijuana. This campaign features politicians, such a Mayor Bloomberg of New York City, who admits to smoking marijuana. (Wishnia) NORML also maintains an internationally viewable website with which they keep the viewers aware of news around the United States and abroad about the goings on in the marijuana community.

Texas has some very strict laws on the possession and sale of marijuana. The penalties in Texas range from misdemeanor possession of two ounces or less, which can carry one hundred-eighty days in jail and a two thousand dollar fine, to felony possession of over a ton, which carries five to ninety-nine years in prison and a fifty thousand dollar fine along with a permanent record that will haunt the offender if they ever get released from prison. (NORML home) The laws become even stricter if money is involved in the trade. Even a gift of a quarter of an ounce carries one hundred eighty days in jail and a two thousand-dollar fine. (NORML home) Sale to a minor, under the age of eighteen, carries an immediate felony conviction with two to twenty years in prison and a ten thousand-dollar fine. (NORML home) If the sale takes place within one thousand feet of a school or three hundred feet of a special area, such as a public pool, youth center, or a video arcade, the penalty goes to the next level of punishment. (NORML home) Drug paraphernalia possession in Texas carries only a civil citation and up to a five hundred dollar fine, while the sale of it holds a misdemeanor conviction, one year in jail, and a three thousand-dollar fine. (NORML home)

Among the efforts in Texas, new chapters need to be founded, money raised, and membership increased. (NORML home) Texas NORML has a new president to help achieve these goals. He is Mark Stepnoski, a former Dallas Cowboy center. Mark believes in the responsible use of marijuana as well as the rest of the organization. He also stated that the continued incarceration of responsible marijuana smokers is a waste of taxpayer money and believes marijuana should fall into the same category as alcohol for responsible use by adults only. (Fox)

The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana laws aims for the legalization, or having a regulated market, and decriminalization of marijuana. NORML will continue its national efforts with ad campaigns and state chapter efforts to reform the laws in each state. NORML's philosophy emanates in a statement made by President Jimmy Carter, August , 177. "Penalties against drug use should not be more damaging to an individual than use of the drug itself. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against the possession of marijuana in private for personal use." (NORML home)

The sun shines in my windows creating an ever so bright wave of light stretching throughout the walls that encompass my room. I slowly open up my eyes and reaching up towards the sky, I stretch, realizing that it is the start of a new day. As I sit up in bed, looking down on the sandy beaches below, watching the little children and their families as they dash across the sand into the bright blue waves, the aroma of breakfast cooking below quickly reaches my nose. Before even stopping and thinking twice, I hop out of bed and scamper downstairs to find my mom making pancakes and bacon. I sit down at the little island in the middle of the kitchen on a bar stool type chair and before I know it, my mom places three pancakes and four strips of bacon on a plate in front of me with a bowl of the most delicious fruit off to the side and a glass of milk to my right. After devouring my breakfast, I gaze out the back door, and the looks of the beaches capture my interest and look quite inviting, so without hesitation I put on my black bathing suit, grab my blue and green striped towel and sprint out the back door, down the five steps in to the warm, sun baked sand. As I reach the actual beach where all the people are enjoying the days' activities, I spread out my towel near the waters edge. I spread my towel out ever so carefully so that the bottom of my towel will not come in contact with the water, a wet towel does little good.

Already spralled out on a towel down by the water's edge is my boyfriend and as I gaze over at him, he lays there quietly with sunglasses covering his bright blue eyes as he buries his naked feet in the warm sand. I tap him on the shoulder trying to get his attention, however he does not acknowledge my existence as he is to relaxed listening to the sounds of children playing and the large white tipped waves crashing in front of him. I lean over once again, this time smacking him a little harder. Startled, he quickly sits up and looks over at me, soon a smile comes across his face stretching across each rosy red cheek. We exchange looks as if to read each others minds and we dart up and sprint down in to the water. We reach the edge of the water where it meets the dry sand and he quickly comes to a halt, after setting maybe his big toe in the water. I continue in not worrying about the cold temperature of the water and dive in the wave before it crashes down. All around are children on boogie boards and rafts, a few parents dare to set foot in the water, most stand where my boyfriend is, at the water's edge. I come leaping back towards my boyfriend, covered in water, splashing droplets higher than I am with each footfall. My boyfriend, realizing what I am doing tries to turn and run away before getting splashed, but I catch up to with out trouble. I jump on to his back covering him in the cold water. Before long, he is dragged in to the water with a minimal amount of fighting. As we play in the ocean, jumping the waves and floating in the water together, time quickly passes us by. We head back to dry land in time to dry by the afternoon sun as it is out shining down brightly on the beach.

The beach soon begins to clear out, as families head in for the evening. Not too long after we began sitting on the beach, we hear my mom's voice calling us from the house telling us that it is time to come in and get ready for dinner. With a sigh, we yell back to her that we are on our way. The waves settle down as high tide comes to end. It is almost like a signal that it is time to head in and begin the evenings activities full of dinner and a late night walk on the beach. The stars come out shining bright and the romantic feeling prevails across the beach. Walking down the sand, it is now cold and only a few people roam the beaches. Here and there are a few groups of teenagers, much like ourselves, huddling around life guard chairs or just in the middle of the beach, talking and enjoying the night. We stroll down the beach by the water before finding a perfect place to sit down and relax. Everything seems so perfect, so calm and peaceful. The beaches are illuminated solely by the moon and stars above and the waves crashing on the sand adds to the romantic setting. We sit together enjoying our night, hoping it will never end.

Dickens/ Austen Prompt

Jane Austen and Charles Dickens portray a marriage proposal in their novels which differ in rhetorical strategies. While Austen uses a more condescending and

non-intimate proposal, Dickens has a more humble and romantic approach to the proposal.

Austen's proposal begins with the phrase that reflects the selfishness and arrogance of his entire proposal "My reasons." Throughout the proposal Austen lists the reasons why he should marry, rather than listing what he has to offer her. His first reason for matrimony is simply that a clergyman "like [him]self should marry in order to set the example." He later adds that his patroness declared that a "clergy man like [him] must marry." Apparently, Austen sets himself on a high horse because of his status as a clergyman. Austen blatantly states, "I am convinced that it will add to greatly to my happiness." No where in his proposal does Austen add that he will bring joy to her life as well, proving that while Austen intends to win her hand in marriage, it is not likely that she is impressed by his choice of words. Further, Austen states, "and thirdly-which perhaps I should have mentioned earlier…"and right when the reader expects Austen to declare his undying love for the woman, he merely reveals that the main reason for his proposal is that his patroness convinced him to do so. Austen's proposal is obviously impersonal and unaffectionate because Austen discloses that his proposal is not something that he necessarily wanted but rather something he and his patroness felt that he needed. When Austen adds that his patroness asked him to "chuse properly, chuse a gentlewoman for my sake; and for your own…fund such a woman as soon as you can, bring her to Hunsford, and I will visit her," Austen reveals that this woman will be evaluated under the criteria of his patroness. The only point at which Austen compliments the woman he is proposing to is when he states "your wit and vivacity I think must be acceptable to [my patroness]." It is almost as if he is recruiting someone for a job rather than proposing to a woman. Clearly, Austen uses a cocky marriage proposal without ever appealing to the woman's emotions.

Charles Dickens, on the other hand, uses a humble and emotionally rich proposal to win the heart of the love of his life. The second sentence in his proposal is simply stated "I love you." These three words contain more meaning and value than Austen's entire proposal, and Austen elaborates it by detailing the "tremendous attraction" he feels for her. He continues by describing the extent of his love for her by stating, "You could draw me to fire, you could draw me to water, you could draw me to the gallows, you could draw me to any death, you could draw me to anything I have most avoided…" The repetition of you could draw me and the hyperbolic ideas serve to emphasize Dickens' vulnerability and passion; he would do anything for her love. At this point the woman is likely enthralled and weak at the knees; Dickens is achieving his purpose. Dickens further convinces the woman of his love for her by stating, "But if you would return a favourable answer to my offer of marriage, you could draw me to good-every good-with equal force." Dickens states that all he needs to be satisfied and content is for her to share her life with him and agree to his proposal. In addition, Dickens explains why he wants to marry her, as well as expresses what he has to offer her, indicating that the selflessness in his proposal. He tells her, "You would want for nothing" in order to convince her of his intentions to satisfy her and make certain that she is fulfilled in their marriage. Dickens also includes that his "reputation is quite high, and it will be a shield for [hers]." Obviously, Dickens is not merely self-interested, but wants her to know of the advantages to marrying him as well. He appeals to her emotions by stating that he longs for her to feel pride in his work, and that he will "try hard that [she] should." Evidently Dickens puts this woman, rather than himself, on a high horse; he strives to impress her and convince her that he has admirable characteristics. Dickens emphasizes his love for her once again by declaring that the makes the proposal "with all [his] heart." By the end of the proposal Dickens appears to plead, "I only add that if it is any claim on you to be in earnest, I am in thorough earnest, dreadful earnest." The repetition of the word earnest implies that Dickens hopes the woman will understand and respond positively to his sincere proposal. This closing sentence is meant to "seal the deal," or finalize her decision. Obviously, Dickens' approach to the proposal of is far more touching and emotional than Austen's manner of proposing.

Jane Austen unsentimental and cocky proposal and Charles Dickens' passionate and selfless proposal differ enormously in their rhetorical strategies. While a woman who received Austen's proposal would be offended and unsympathetic, a woman who received Dickens' proposal would likely be crying tears of joy and bliss.

(Every) Day at 'The Home'

I have wondered for many years what event prompts decay of people as they age; it's as if their soul departs, leaving only a withered body and fading shadow of what was once a vibrant spirit. Favourite relatives can no longer remember your name, and do not even lift their eyes from the floor as they brood inwardly over some unknown subject. Although once eager to seep in each detail of interest, they now fall into troubled sleep. A sharp memory no longer recalls words communicated the previous minute.

And I have found that the truth lies not in the loss of memory, but in a sense of detachment from the present time, the loss of inseparable companions and ultimately the will to live. And one event above all others summons this change their removal to a nursing home, or some other 'care' centre. I find those very adjectives faintly ironic, as the very atmosphere is one that banishes all energy and resolve from the patient's heart. Existence in it, however, further works to remove all sense of dignity and independence, to humble and to humiliate until all resistance to this is dissipated.

This I have witnessed on multiple occasions, and has led me to form strong opinions on the importance of a approach to healing that focuses not solely on the physical condition of patients, but more so on their outlook and attitude to their circumstances. Watching loved ones being fed by spoons or through plastic tumblers is heartbreaking, as I watch seemingly invincible characters reduced to infants with these actions. A sense of pride is essential to the spirit of man, yet how this possibly be retained when these people are fed with plastic spoons, pulpy food oozing down the faded patterns on cheap nylon bibs? It is not that people become totally incapable, it is their final acceptance of what they are told constantly by those around them, which renders them hopelessly inept in all things.

Write a research paper on (every) day

"Don't be silly Maggie, of course you can't walk, you'll have another fall."

It seems unlikely that she will make future steps when entrapped by this all encompassing web of doubt and negativity, which leads to self-doubt and a feeling of hopelessness. This is one of the things that make me dread visiting the Gran whom I love greatly.

Before entering the building, I first type in a code, making me feel like I am going into prison and wanting to turn back. I feel trapped. And once inside, I am met with a pungent odour of urine and disinfectant. I can taste death, but walking on I pass the dining room where a few souls sit round a table, turned in their wheeled- chairs to face each other, yet completely separate in thought and existence. On the opposite side of the corridor, a mass of bodies stare at a quiz show, hearing the words without actually listening to them. Each room identical, the patients contained in them are in various stages of succumbing to the inevitable. They will all break anyway.

A man scrapes along the passageway ahead, his Zimmer frame seemingly in resistance to his attempt to live freely. I imagine that this long aisle is the stairwell to heaven, then dismiss the thought. I don't believe that a god would let these scenes take place. The home appears like a stopping place before death anyway, a kind of link between life and passing away, but I realise that it could with work be a pleasant time instead of the Hell that has been created for them. I move on into my Gran's room. She is sleeping as always, perhaps dreaming of the past, but it is obvious to me that some of her old spirit still remains intact, and it is frustrating for me to be unable to rekindle this flame, which would surely drive the demons away. She stirs, and I call to her softly, and she opens her eyes without looking up. Searching for her glasses, I hear 'Kilroy' through the cheap hardboard walls and still the smell lingers. Breathing through my mouth only makes me nauseous. I ask her how she is feeling, and she replies

"When am I going home?"

For a while I tried to explain to her what has happened, but she forgets, so now I just tell her something to make her feel better. A pang of conscience hits me, but I assure myself that it's her happiness is more important than truth. She'll have completely forgotten soon anyway.

"Soon, this is just a place for you to have a rest. This is like a hotel, so you can just put your feet up and relax."

"Have I paid for this?"

"Yes, it's all under control, you don't think that we'd let you away with that, do you?"

She allows herself a faint chuckle at this and I can sense a resurgence of her past zest. Slowly, though it fades. Subsequently, Agnes peers round the door before scuttling off. She steals things, putting them in her drawer, perhaps in defiance of the system, and it is her who I see as the sole survivor after being put in here. Or maybe she has just gone crazy, but I like her for that.

And then Gran starts again.

"Will I be here for long?"

I remain patient, but it is hard to watch her inner struggle against a demon waiting for her cease clinging to hope and life. But this is just another visit, with the same smell, the same walls, the same sounds, the same questions and the same people. Something must change, I tell myself. But it's the same, always the same.

Dancing The Supersport!

Good evening chairperson, judges, ladies and gentlemen. I am sure you are all aware of the fact that today's society is becoming increasingly aware of what is considered politically correct, and of the different groups of people who fall victim to discrimination. Unfortunately, one Australian stereotype that has not yet been declared politically incorrect is also the most ridiculous and insulting stereotype ever. The absurd belief, to which I am referring to, is that male dancers are effeminate.

The suggestion that male dancers are effeminate, and the fact that the majority of younger people in today's supposedly "modern" society would believe such a statement, is not so much an insult to male dancers, as it is to our entire community's ideologies. Such an idea is not only ignorant, and poorly grounded; it fails to conform with our country's ideals of equality and acceptance. No man should be made to feel ashamed about the fact that he dances. Anyone who is physically and mentally able to participate in a sport as rigorous and intellectually challenging as dancing deserves nothing but praise!

In this speech, I will compare the sport of dancing with one of Australia's most beloved pastimes, football; and in doing so, will demonstrate on three different levels that dancing is a far more masculine sport.

Cheap essay writing service offers papers on Dancing the Supersport!

In order to prove physical masculinity, men are expected to resist pain and endure injuries. Now, if football really is the more masculine sport, why is that we see images of whimpering men with torn hamstrings in the middle of a footy field on the local news, and why is it that footballer's injuries make headlines? I've never seen a dancer's broken ankle make the front page, and if a dancer did injure himself on stage, he would simply have to keep performing to the best of his ability until an understudy could replace him subtly. He would not dramatise the incident for a bit of media attention, as a footballer would.

On a scientific level, three main elements must be met for an athlete to be considered truly fit. These are, flexibility, endurance and strength. Unlike most other sports, dancing incorporates all three of these elements equally, and as a result, is one of the most physically demanding and severe sports in the world. Football, however, focuses next to solely on strength, and due to their lack of flexibility, many football players develop muscle and joint injuries, and because they are able to 'sub-off' the field, footballers do not possess the great endurance of a dancer, who may have to perform for up to two hours straight. The irony of this predicament is that in order to overcome their lack of flexibility and endurance, many professional football coaches encourage their players to undertake dance classes.

Finally, and probably most significantly, it must be acknowledged that the very nature of football suggests that its players are homosexually inclined. Sweaty men jumping on top of each other, showering together, and in 'special' circumstances, "hopwating" each other is definitely not macho. I don't think I even need to make suggestion as to what happens in the changing rooms. A more masculine sport would be one involving both males and females, requiring participants to interact with each other, and each other's bodies in order to win. Such a sport is dancing.

To conclude, I would like to draw a comparison between the two sports, just to prove beyond any reasonable doubt that dancing is undeniably more masculine than football

He was exhausted, but continued to dance. He knew that if for one fleeting second he showed the pain that was hammering through his limbs, the other couple would win. He spun her once, twice, before snapping her body against his. She was exhausted too; he could feel the sweat on her thigh and her heart beating against his chest. Suddenly he bent her back at a most awkward angle until all he could see were her breasts and stomach. He snapped her body against his one final time and they embraced. The music ended, he knew they had won.

And yet for some strange, and rather brainless reason, the majority of Australian's find this next scenario to be more macho.

He was exhausted, but continued to run. He knew that if he gave into the pain, the other team would win. He dove for the line and grounded the ball in the try area. He had won the game for his team! He was contented, but the glory he was seeking from this triumphant moment was yet to come, and then it happened; all twelve of the other sweaty men in his team ran over, touched him, hugged him…He was in heaven!

This may seem like a comical characterisation of football, however the scenario does carry with it a very serious undertone. I have proven that physically, scientifically, and most definitely sexually, dancing is far more masculine than football. So why is it that male dancers have been labelled homosexuals? The truth is that men don't find dancing to be as simple as running around a football field, or kicking a soccer ball into a goal, and to hide their own incompetencies, ridicule the men who are brave enough to attempt the arduous sport of dance. I say, GROW UP! And see dancing for what it is a truly intense, and masculine sport!

Ecotourism is a façade and is bad for the environment. First of all, there are no local benefits. Almost all of the profit is sent to foreign countries, and the low paying jobs like tour guides are given to the local villagers. Secondly, some of the projects are fake landscapes. These artificial areas are just for show to the tourists so they come back, also the false landscape tends to harm the plants and animals that live in the area. Lastly, some of the nature reserves have big companies install projects. Huge resorts such as hotels, condominiums, shopping centers and golf courses are being established on the land being set aside for the environment. In conclusion, ecotourism is just a cover up for making money and does not support the environment.

THE HOME FRONT

1-145

1. How was everyday life in Britain affected by the wartime conditions with challenges like "the blitz"?

"Blitzkrieg"- lightning war, a swift intensive attack designed to defeat the opposition quickly.

College papers on the home front

"You must not be taken by surprise", warned a Ministry of Information leaflet issued as the threat of invasion loomed in Britain. Long before the war broke out families were introduced to gas masks, air-raid drill and bomb shelters, and mass evacuations were planned. The blitz affected the lives of men, women and children. Preparations for the war were stepped up in august 1. Upon the declaration of war, the BBC broadcasted on the radio that Britain is now in the state of war as the Germans are invading Poland, even though having been given an ultimatum. On the rd September at 11.00 the British declared war. Britain was once more at war.

Evacuations soon took place thereafter. Over three million people had left their homes even before the war was declared. In September alone, at least a quarter of the population also moved, they included up to 5,000 civil servants. All these people had to be housed, they were either sent abroad or to the countryside.

This war was going to affect everyone. Some of the first to suffer were the TV viewers. Watching a Mickey Mouse cartoon on September 1st. The service suddenly shut down and stayed off the air until 146. The blackout which began the same evening did affect everyone. No one was allowed to have light shining from a house. The aim was to make it more difficult for the German bombers to spot their targets.

Street lights were turned off; so were neon signs and shop lights. Everybody had to travel in darkness, all windows had to be blacked out with thick curtains, or anything else that people could get hold of. People disliked the blackout, with good reason. A survey showed that nearly one in five million people had an accident in the first four months.

Everybody was also expected to carry a gas mask at all times. Along side the gas mask you also had to carry your identity cards, which had to be shown on demand. Some children wore numbered metal bracelets. Incomes were cut, in 1; people could still buy as much food as they wanted as long as they could afford it. Britain imported a lot of food in 1, less got in during the war. German submarines attacked ships bringing in food from America. Some food were in short supply, as the rationing began, it made sure everybody had equal amounts and that a fair share of the food was distributed amongst the people.

Due to the air-raids the government issued shelters for people at their homes. First the Anderson shelter was "born", you needed to have a garden for this and less than 5% had one. Nearly 1.5 million shelters were distributed for free in September 1. As this didn't work that well, they introduced the Morrison shelter, which was a steel mesh box, accommodating adults and children. Over a million were issued.

ARP (Air Raid Precautions) was set up to cope with the problem that bombing caused. They went off when the sir raid sirens went off. They wore helmets with a white "W" on the front and went to check everybody's lights were dimmed, and that they were off the streets. Slogans like "make-do-and mend", and "dig for victory" were used to help people be cautious with the way they live, and to try and help themselves.

The lives of everybody was rapidly changed, although the war had it's downsides, it bought communities together helping them to help themselves and each other. Everyday life was dearly affected; men, women and children all helped with the war efforts.

. What role did the media play in the war effort on the home front?

Bombing raids, petrol shortages and blacked-out streets all meant that people spent a lot of their evenings at home. The radio served as a lifeline and just about everyone crowded round their set to listen to the nine o'clock news on the BBC Home Service. There were many children's programmes, helping them to get through the chaos of life during the blitz. For the adults the humorous comedy ITMA (Its That Man Again) - was a true phenomenon of wartime entertainment. Fast-moving, packed with wise-cracks and dottily British, the show proved more of a morale booster than any government propaganda.

To escape the claustrophobic atmosphere at home, people went to the movies. They were prepared to queue for hours to get in every week and in wartime Britain some 5-0 million cinema tickets were sold each week. The big picture houses with their grandiose names Majestic, Palace, Alhambra created dream worlds where for a few pence the dark streets and bombs could be forgotten.

The propaganda targeted the newspapers, news was censored and papers only published what government wanted them to. The same was true on radio and cinema newsreels. Sometimes the news was kept secret because it might help the enemy. Weather reports; stopped during the war. Propaganda also involved drumming a message home; the government had lots of these for the British people. Many appeared as newspaper adverts or on cinema screens. But, most of all, it was achieved by posters. Hoardings were everywhere, filled with government posters. Each one had its slogan; each had something to do with the war effort. Perhaps the most famous was "careless talk costs lives". The government was worried that there might be enemy agents living secretly in britain. Sp people were told not to talk about anything in public which might help the enemy.

Daimyo- A feudal lord of Japan who was a large landowner.

Bushido- The traditional code of the Japanese samurai, stressing honor, self-discipline, bravery, and simple living.

The term bowl is thought to be derived from the Saxon bolla and the Danish bolle, both meaning, in the literal sense, "bubble." The word later referred to any round or spherical object. Some trace the to the Latin bulla or round ball, and others just prefer the French form of the word boule, meaning ball.

It didn't what you called it or how you played it, bowling has been around for a long while and I know that you don't want to hear about the ancient Egyptians and how they started it all, so I won't say anything about them. The process of throwing things at other things in the purpose of knocking the other things over has been an urge inside of man for many centuries.

In other studies, a man by the name of Dr. Malcom Rogers, who is the curator of the San Diego Museum, discovered an ancient bowling game as performed by the Polynesians, in which small elliptical balls, and round flat discs of stone, about four inches in diameter were used. The game was called "Ula Maika" and consisted of bowling or rolling the stone a distance of sixty feet, which is the length of our hardwood lanes today. I had the opportunity of living in the Pacific Island of Tahiti for a period of two years and in that time I came to know what everyone meant, when people talk about a third world country, I observed, organized and played in many of their lawn bowling games as described above and these games were great ways to make new friends and to become closer with the Polynesian culture. Many people participated in these games, and once in a rare while there were a couple of tempers being lost due to bad sportsmanship, but all in all, things usually were very well organized.

In America, the early Dutch settlers brought a bowling type game with a set of nine pins instead of our ten, to Manhattan in 166. With this expansion as well as other from England who went to Virginia, bowling soon became very popular in New York, and a bowling lane was found on every block on Broadway in the 1840's. oddly enough, most of the bowling matches that were played in New York were rigged for and in 1841 bowling was declared by law to be a gambling game and eventually the game was abolished in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, and by 1850 gamblers and swindlers had complete control of the game of ninepins.

Essay writing services for BOWLING, A BRIEF HISTORY papers

Originally the game of ninepins had the pins in a diamond formation and had actually been condemned by the Puritans two hundred years earlier because men were devoting time to playing the game that could have been spent more constructively, like at work. Didn't they know that all work and no play makes people frustrated. However neither condemnation nor legislation could abolish enthusiasm for the game. So at that time ninepins had to be played secretly, and there were many sad bowlers who would sit in stocks or in prison for defying the law. This went on until one man decided to circumvent the law and change a few things, like adding one more pin and changing the formation from a diamond to a triangle and thus improved the game, and its growth began. By 1875 the game became so well established that a " National Bowling Association" was formed to revise the rules, and standardize the equipment. Unfortunately it failed to survive and the American Amateur Bowling Union replaced it in 180. It too died out and was replaced by the American Bowling Congress (ABC), whose objective was to help promote and evaluate the game. As a result of this association the ABC is the largest sports membership organization in the world.

The popularity of bowling took a dramatic turn with the introduction of the automatic pinsetting devices in 15 which made it a heck of a lot easier and faster to bowl even though the pin-boys were put out of a job. With the construction of large bowling centers complete with lounges, dining rooms, and even nurseries, bowling lost it's infamous and unsavory "pool hall" association, to become one of the largest participation sports and one of the most popular forms of family recreation in the United States. From the fall of 10 to the spring of 11 more than 8 million people in the U.S. bowled at least on game, and another 6.7 million adults bowled in weekly leagues. Thirty-six per cent of bowlers are adult women, 4 per cent are adult men, and 0 per cent are youth between the ages of 5 to 17.

The skills needed to achieve an average performance in bowling and to enjoy taking part in the game are relatively easy to acquire. Less preparation and participation time is required for bowling than for many other sports. I know very well that this statement is easier said than done. Natural tendencies and urges to bowl a certain way need to be curbed to fully comprehend the easy technique, and then to put it to practice.

Bowling is also popular on the international scene with ten pins being played by over 110 million people in over 80 nations. In fact the world's largest bowling hall, with 5 lanes, is the Tokyo World Lanes Bowling Center in Tokyo, Japan.

Bowling appeals o everyone, from the oldest man confined to a wheelchair to the smallest child who barely has enough strength to lift the ball,. That was one of the things that attracted me the most to the game, and that was that bowling doesn't discriminate against anyone, a lot of women were happy that they had a sport they could finally be equal to or even greater than the men who played it.

In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. c. Data, again this is useless when just an order, would be info if it was a report of all the orders placed in a given time period.

d. Information, because it is a document that presents statistics that can be used for other things.

.

8. His current information system is really a personal information system because that is what is used in an office environment when described with word processing and spreadsheets for workers. These type of programs are used and designed to meet the needs of a single user and boost their productivity. To extend this to a true office information system, they can redesign it or modify it slightly to support not only individuals but work groups as well. This would include those workers not located in the same office. Office automation systems are concerned with getting all relevant information to those who need it. This is accomplished through word processing, email, work group computing, work group scheduling, fax processing, imaging and electronic documents, and work flow management.

9.

a. Transaction Processing Systems do bank deposits and withdrawals.

b. Transaction Processing Systems would be used to print out a summary of cash total since that is the system that would keep track of money, like retail point of sale.

c. Management Information Systems because they filter data to report exceptions, which is what checking to see if they have enough money is.

f. Decision Support system because it will present him with a list of trends where he will then have to make a decision on which stock if any to buy.

g. Expert system because the system is using A.I. to figure out the illness so the doctor doesn't have to spend time figuring it out when the computer can do it so much faster.

h. Office automation and work group because they use email to communicate between an entire workgroup or office.

1) Systems analysis is a problem solving technique that decomposes a system into its component pieces for the purpose of studying how well those component parts work and interact to accomplish their purpose. Systems design is a complementary problem-solving technique that reassembles a systems component pieces back into a complete system—it is hoped an improved system. This may involve adding, deleting, and changing pieces relative to the original system. Information systems analysis is defined as those development phases in a project that primarily focus on the business problem, independent of any technology that can or will be used to implement a solution to that problem.

6) Object oriented analysis is a model driven technique that integrates Data and Process concerns into constructs called Objects. OOA models are pictures that illustrate the systems objects from various perspectives such as structure and behavior. Structured analysis is a model driven, Process-centered technique used to either analyze an existing system, define business requirements for a new system, or both. The models are pictures that illustrate the systems component pieces: processes and their associated inputs, outputs, and files. Information engineering is a model-driven and Data-Centered, but Process-sensitive technique to plan, analyze, and design information systems. IE models are pictures that illustrate and synchronize the system's data and processes.

9) Reverse engineering technology reads the program code for an existing system database, application program, and/or user interface and automatically generates the equivalent system model. It can be used by system analysts and users to provide a blueprint for a new and improved system.

11) Business Process Redesign is the application of systems analysis methods to the goal of dramatically changing and improving the fundamental business processes of an organization, independent of technology.

17) Cause and effect analysis is a technique in which problems are studied to determine their cause and effect. A risk of not performing this type of analysis is not correctly solving a problem or stating a valid solution. You should truly analyze the problem before stating any solution.

19) An objective is a measure of success. It is something that you expect to achieve, if given sufficient resources. A constraint is something that will limit your flexibility in defining a solution to your objectives. Essentially, constraints cannot be changed.

25) Is the solution feasible? That is the question asked in the design phase. IT is checked for Technical feasibility, operational feasibility, economic feasibility, and schedule feasibility. The information systems building blocks can serve as a useful framework for the decision analysis phase. The building blocks indicate our goal to develop a proposal that will fulfill requirements.

Thomas Jefferson's reply on January 1, 180, to the Danbury Baptists Association contains a piece of text that to many explains the religious clause in the first amendment. The First amendment states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances," an amendment that has been under scrutiny on all sides. The first phrase according to the Library of Congress is the segment Jefferson was referring to when he wrote his final letter. In the final letter Jefferson states," Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties." To build a stronger case one must look at the original draft also available from the Library of congress where in the same paragraph he states," Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; thus building a wall of eternal separation between Church & State. Congress thus inhibited from acts respecting religion, and the Executive authorized only to execute their acts, I have refrained from prescribing even those occasional performances of devotion, practiced indeed by the Executive of another nation as the legal head of its church, but subject here, as religious exercises only to the voluntary regulations and discipline of each respective sect, confining myself therefore to the duties of my station, which are merely temporal, be assured that your religious rights shall never be infringed by any act of mine and that. The difference between the final and the original is that the final is less aggressive and takes more of colorful tone. In either case it is clear that Jefferson did not believe a government body should be influenced by a religion because a "sects" leader might influence the decisions of a governing individual obstructing the purity of personal choice.

On September 7, 00, the ten commandments display supported by Judge Roy Moore was denied an appeal to have the monument replaced by the supreme court by a vote of three to six. Judge Moore's argument is that the monument was to be in likeness of the supreme courts monument in that it was made to be a tribute of how our government was formed and that it was not to be secular and for those that thought it was were searching for a theocratic government and no American should want that. Despite his argument the supreme court rejected his appeal stating it was a conflict between church and state.

In my views in regards to church and state I believe as Jefferson believed. If you look at history and see how wars like the crusades and every other holy war was started the governing body gained nothing by fighting over a religious belief with nothing but faith as their proof of authenticity. However the one exception is the United States, but we fought for religious freedom to practice our own individual faiths unobstructed by a governing body (amendment 1). With that said it would be foolish to say that our government is not already influenced by ones beliefs, but it is that denying of an individuals beliefs to be forced upon ones community and only the people with in their household that makes our democracy work. So do I believe in a separation between church and state by all means especially because by accepting ones religion we might deny another's beliefs or happiness. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

German Measles (also know as Rubella) is a disease that is not very common any more, but before the 160s, outbreaks occurred every six to nine years. It use to be that having German Measles was considered a milestone in your life, like having chicken pox is now.

Rubella is a viral infection that is caused by a simple microorganism or a complex molecule that has a protein coat that can only grow and spread in living things. When a group of these microorganisms or molecules get together they cause people to get sick by infecting their bodies. The microorganisms or molecules that can be spread from one person to another are considered contagious.

Rubella most of the time is a pretty mild illness but can be very bad. Most of the time the people who have Rubella complain about their glands behind their ears and back of their neck hurting, a rash and a slight fever. Sometimes young girls and women complain about their hand joints hurting. Rubella is the only disease where the glands in the neck swell. Sometimes when a baby has Rubella the only thing that happens is they get fussy and have a rash. The older you get the worse you get. When an older person gets Rubella they may not have a rash but they can have eye pain, sore throat, fever and body aches.

The virus that causes Rubella can be passed from one person to another by contact with the infected persons body fluid. Most of the time this happens by contact with saliva droplets that contain the virus. A person can spread their saliva droplets by coughing, sneezing, talking or sharing the same cup. A person that touches something that an infected person touched and then touches their eyes, nose or mouth before washing their hands can become infected. Also a pregnant woman can give it to her baby. When this happens the baby can be born with Congenital Rubella Syndrome or CRS. Some of the babies that are born with CRS have cataracts and other eye problems. They can also have hearing problems, heart problems and developmental problems.

Most of the time if you get Rubella you can be taken care of at home. A blood test at the doctors office will tell if you have Rubella. After the doctor tells you that you have German Measles then the doctor will tell you to go to bed, drink lots of fluids and take Tylenol for your fever and sore joints and throat. Your doctor will tell you not to take aspirin because it can cause you to become sick with another disease called Reyes Syndrome. A humidifier will help you breath better. If your eyes are sore or sensitive to light, then keeping the room dark will help. Most of all, stay home so that you do not expose anyone else to German Measles.

The number one prevention of Rubella is a vaccine that is part of our normal immunizations, or shots, that we get as kids. These shots started around 16, and since that time Rubella outbreaks have decreased by %. Even though studies show that in 160 the number of cases were about 750,000 and in 170 the cases numbered 100,000, in 17 about 50,000 and in 10 only 10,000. All the studies show that the best way not to get Rubella is to get the shot, there are people who will not get it, or let their kids have it because they are scared that the shot will make them sick. Some people believe that the shot can cause a child to become retarded or to die in their sleep. Another reason that a person will not get the shot is because of religious beliefs that prevent them from getting any shots no matter what the studies show.

There is no cure for Rubella or any type of Measles. Scientists are working on one but have not discovered it yet. Maybe the cure will be found in the prevention of the disease.

Cindy Sherman was born in New Jersey in 1954 and raised in suburban Long Island. Sherman attended the State University College at Buffalo, New York, where she initially studied painting. While studying painting, she often did many self-portraits and realistic copies of images she found in magazines and photographs. She failed the requisite introductory photography course because of her difficulties with the technological aspects of making a print, and she credits her next photography teacher with introducing her to conceptual art. After she graduated in 1977, Sherman moved to New York. Soon after, she began her most famous project, Untitled Film Stills. As early as 1979, articles about Sherman's work were appearing in Arts Magazine and October. In nearly ten years she has had over 30 one-person shows at museums and galleries all over the country and abroad. Over one hundred articles in many different kinds of magazines have focused on her work.

Cindy Sherman is most famous for her series Untitled Film Stills that she started at the end of 1977 and finished in 1980. She took many small black-and-white photographs of herself impersonating various female character types from old movies. These images spoke to a generation of baby boomer women who had grown up with these glamorous images at home on their televisions, taking such portrayals as cues for their future. Sherman's photographs create the effect of having put your VCR on pause during an old soap opera. The complete series was first exhibited at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC in 1995. This series totals to 69 different photographs. Similar characters appear in several photographs, resulting in mini series within the larger group. For example, the first six images feature the same blonde women at different points in her life and career. In each photograph, Sherman depicts herself alone, as a familiar but not specific film heroine in an appropriate movie-like setting. A few examples of these characters that she dresses herself up as are a young secretary in the city in Untitled Film Still #21, an innocent runawaylike in Untitled Film Still #48, a seductress in a slip with a martini glass like in Untitled Film Still #7, and many more. Sherman's characters in the Untitled Film Stills are not specified which allows the viewer to create their own stories for these women in her photographs.

After Sherman finished her Untitled Film Stills series, she went on to do a series of color images in which each photograph was called Untitled followed by a number. These photographs were very similar and yet very different from her Untitled Film Stills series. These images also played on the idea of capturing some kind of performance in each photograph. All of these color images are all in an enclosed unidentifiable space, but that is not what is important in the photograph. The main idea is performance of Sherman herself. Sherman has directed the camera so that her performance, not the environment, monopolizes the image. Some examples of what these photographs portray are Sherman, in #87, lying blankly on a wooden painted floor holding a red and orange blanket, in #99 she is clearly furious, covering herself with a bright red towel, in #93, Sherman is hiding as if wounded under brown tousled sheets, and so on. These images also have that look of freeze-frame like the Untitled Film Stills series, yet they have a look that is clearly unique from the other series. They are much more modern and bold than the other photographs.

It is unknown how many or which of these images Sherman is actually the photographer. It is known that she is the model and the director of the photographs to some extent, but that is all. So who it was that actually took the photographs will remain a mystery.

Write a research paper on cindy sherman bio and critisism

I personally feel conflicted about Cindy Sherman's work. Her ideas seem interesting on the surface, but when I look a little bit harder I realize that there really isn't any depth to them. Sherman has someone else, who she gives no credit to at all, take photographs of herself dressed up as women in situations that create the view of women as manipulative, needy, vulnerable, pouty. Sherman's photographs do not comment on these stereotypes of women, they are merely a repetition of them. Her photographs do not comment on the many roles women are forced to assume and guide us toward a better understanding of female identity either. The one aspect of her photographs that she controls lacks any form of meaning or significance. Because the viewer knows that the subject of the photograph is the artist and not a real women in a real situation, it makes the viewer delve into the photograph a little deeper than one would if it were a portrait, looking for some kind of message, but Sherman leaves us with nothing more than exactly what we see, and there is not enough in them for them to be a feast for the eyes alone. The only photographs that Sherman takes are of her performances of women who seem to have no sense of self, of women who seem objectified and stereotypical. Sherman is also very antiphotography. To begin with, there is the fact that she does not consider herself a photographer or her work photography. Secondly, she does not always take the photograph herself. Sherman calls all of her photographs "untitled" and seems to purposely make them visually uninteresting. All of this dismissing the idea of photography as the art of the specific and unique.
