Cindy Sherman was born in New Jersey in 1954 and raised in suburban Long Island. Sherman attended the State University College at Buffalo, New York, where she initially studied painting. While studying painting, she often did many self-portraits and realistic copies of images she found in magazines and photographs. She failed the requisite introductory photography course because of her difficulties with the technological aspects of making a print, and she credits her next photography teacher with introducing her to conceptual art. After she graduated in 1977, Sherman moved to New York. Soon after, she began her most famous project, Untitled Film Stills. As early as 1979, articles about Sherman's work were appearing in Arts Magazine and October. In nearly ten years she has had over 30 one-person shows at museums and galleries all over the country and abroad. Over one hundred articles in many different kinds of magazines have focused on her work.

Cindy Sherman is most famous for her series Untitled Film Stills that she started at the end of 1977 and finished in 1980. She took many small black-and-white photographs of herself impersonating various female character types from old movies. These images spoke to a generation of baby boomer women who had grown up with these glamorous images at home on their televisions, taking such portrayals as cues for their future. Sherman's photographs create the effect of having put your VCR on pause during an old soap opera. The complete series was first exhibited at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC in 1995. This series totals to 69 different photographs. Similar characters appear in several photographs, resulting in mini series within the larger group. For example, the first six images feature the same blonde women at different points in her life and career. In each photograph, Sherman depicts herself alone, as a familiar but not specific film heroine in an appropriate movie-like setting. A few examples of these characters that she dresses herself up as are a young secretary in the city in Untitled Film Still #21, an innocent runawaylike in Untitled Film Still #48, a seductress in a slip with a martini glass like in Untitled Film Still #7, and many more. Sherman's characters in the Untitled Film Stills are not specified which allows the viewer to create their own stories for these women in her photographs.

After Sherman finished her Untitled Film Stills series, she went on to do a series of color images in which each photograph was called Untitled followed by a number. These photographs were very similar and yet very different from her Untitled Film Stills series. These images also played on the idea of capturing some kind of performance in each photograph. All of these color images are all in an enclosed unidentifiable space, but that is not what is important in the photograph. The main idea is performance of Sherman herself. Sherman has directed the camera so that her performance, not the environment, monopolizes the image. Some examples of what these photographs portray are Sherman, in #87, lying blankly on a wooden painted floor holding a red and orange blanket, in #99 she is clearly furious, covering herself with a bright red towel, in #93, Sherman is hiding as if wounded under brown tousled sheets, and so on. These images also have that look of freeze-frame like the Untitled Film Stills series, yet they have a look that is clearly unique from the other series. They are much more modern and bold than the other photographs.

It is unknown how many or which of these images Sherman is actually the photographer. It is known that she is the model and the director of the photographs to some extent, but that is all. So who it was that actually took the photographs will remain a mystery.

I personally feel conflicted about Cindy Sherman's work. Her ideas seem interesting on the surface, but when I look a little bit harder I realize that there really isn't any depth to them. Sherman has someone else, who she gives no credit to at all, take photographs of herself dressed up as women in situations that create the view of women as manipulative, needy, vulnerable, pouty. Sherman's photographs do not comment on these stereotypes of women, they are merely a repetition of them. Her photographs do not comment on the many roles women are forced to assume and guide us toward a better understanding of female identity either. The one aspect of her photographs that she controls lacks any form of meaning or significance. Because the viewer knows that the subject of the photograph is the artist and not a real women in a real situation, it makes the viewer delve into the photograph a little deeper than one would if it were a portrait, looking for some kind of message, but Sherman leaves us with nothing more than exactly what we see, and there is not enough in them for them to be a feast for the eyes alone. The only photographs that Sherman takes are of her performances of women who seem to have no sense of self, of women who seem objectified and stereotypical. Sherman is also very antiphotography. To begin with, there is the fact that she does not consider herself a photographer or her work photography. Secondly, she does not always take the photograph herself. Sherman calls all of her photographs "untitled" and seems to purposely make them visually uninteresting. All of this dismissing the idea of photography as the art of the specific and unique.

Change is all around us and as the saying goes, "change is as good as a holiday", however holidays don't always go as planned. For you doing the H.S.C soon, things have been changing quite a lot and the change can be quite scary, you just wish things could be easy again like in yr 7. This isn't going to happen so we need to find ways to deal with the change and get passed the H.S.C. We see examples of change all around us, even in our school work, such as Gwen Harwood's poetry. This article will help you find ways to deal with the change you are experiencing, you will survive the H.S.C!

Through reading In The Park by Gwen Harwood we see a clear view of the change one woman has experienced. The choices we make now affect our whole lives and we therefore must think clearly before we make decisions. "She whispered to the wind, they have eaten me alive", here Gwen talks about how many young women don't know the demands of being a mother and that this choice that led to her having kids was life changing for the woman in the poem, so in other words think about your choices before you make them because they may affect your future greatly. The woman in In The Park has made dreadful choices in her life and they have come back to haunt her, she has been left all alone to bring up these kids because she relied on somebody else, she had nothing to fall back on and when things went wrong she had no options. The reinforces the idea of making wise choices and thinking about your actions before you act, because things may go wrong and people may let you down, you need to depend on yourself and look out for yourself because we know for sure that you will always be there for help when you need it, other people may not.

At Mornington by Gwen Harwood also with change; however the woman in this poem deals with her change more effectively. She comes to accept her change and she doesn't try to fight it because she knows that the change in her life is inevitable. The change she has experienced is the changes in life; from childhood to adulthood as well as life and death. You could learn from this woman because change happens and it's better to deal with it rather than to fight it. Would you rather be happy and accept things or fight them and become stress and depressed? It's not worth it.

Change is inescapable, time produces many events and experiences in our journey of life. These events, sometimes unknowingly, transform who we are as time passes, and you have to come to accept this. In Mother who gave me Life a woman loses her mother and rather than worry about her death she decides to remember her life and the wonderful things her mother has done for her, even when she was on her death bed, "somehow, smooth to a smile so I should not see your tears". "A lamp on embroidered linen", most likely embroidered by her mother, this shows her hard work and her care for the family. The woman is this poem has lost time with her mother and is regretful of that, "Forgive me the wisdom I would not learn from you", however she knows this cannot be changed so she accepts it and moves along. Acceptance is the best way to deal with change especially when the change is inevitable.

College papers on Why do things have to change?

The end of the H.S.C means the start of life in the real world and the start of your responsibilities. Most of you guys doing the H.S.C will also know the BOS booklet and the text Sky High, this is another example of deal and accepting change. The girl in this text is reminiscing her childhood and contrasting it with her life now. When she was a child she "Edge out along one skeletal arm, then, from a sitting position I swing upside-down" however now as an adult "it is unlikely the washing line could support me this time", this show hers increased responsibility and also her acceptance of her life. She has grown and changed and now "there are too many things tying me to the ground". The girl in this text seems a little bit sad by her change however she has accepted it and will live her life and have fun.

The article I'm not as bad as you were Mum tells of a mother's acceptance of her daughters change, and also her worry over her daughters change. The mother was a fairly wild child in her day and is worried that her daughter may be doing the sorts of things she got up to, such as drinking and sex. The mother does anguish over her daughter's decisions and wants to know what she's up to, "so the talk was had. "I know, Mum ," was the response. But how much does she know? And do I want to know how much she knows? And is it any of my business to know exactly what's going on in her mind and her life?" Now we've all had this talk with one of our parents once in our lives but now we see their point of view, they're just worried. The mother accepts that she can't know everything about her daughter's life, "Even if my children do take after their mother, maybe everything will turn out all right in the end anyway". So instead of being worried and stressed the mother decides to trust her daughter and wish for the best. What a good idea.

So as you see change can come in many different forms ranging from growth to death, however all these forms of change can be dealt with and accepted. You may not want things to change but they are no matter what so it's better to deal with and accept your change so you don't become stress and make the wrong choices, such as the woman in In the Park. Learn from other people such as the ones in the above texts and always think about your actions and do the right thing. So to all of you good luck have fun and don't worry there is life beyond the H.S.C.

Constitutional Analysis

I believe that the most important part of the constitution is the fact that there is no most important part of the constitution. The entire document stands out as the most important document in the US. One part does not jump out as more important than any other part. The best part is that there is no best part and it works together to insure all our freedoms and set up a system of government. What would the US be without the freedom of speech guaranteed in the 1st amendment? The US would not have the true freedom of speech if blacks, women, or 18 year olds could not vote. Those groups would not truly have freedom of speech if they were not able to vote thanks to the 15th, 1th, and 6th amendments. What if the president was able to declare war? The country might have turned into a dictatorship of some sort with a war-mongering president. Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 says that congress has the power to declare war so that the president does not become too powerful. Also, consider the debates without the clause 18 of section 8 of article 1, which serves as the elastic clause for the powers of congress. Without this clause there would be constant strife over what the enumerated powers of congress really are.

The whole basis of the Constitution is the equality of all the powers. The separation of power with checks and balances means that all parties are equally powerful and have and equal say in the issues facing the country. While these powers are equal they are very different at the same time. The president can propose a bill, the congress can pass it and then the Supreme Court can rule that the bill is unconstitutional. Each of those branches is equally important to the bill's adaptation in US society. Each branch can veto the measure but one is not more important than the other. That is like asking whether the father or the mother is more important to the process of creating a child. Each has its own role and each is significant and important in its own way.

The first amendment has been the most publicized and tried amendment in the Constitution. The cases range from 11 Shenck v United States when the famous ruling involving "shouting fire in a theatre" and "clear and present danger" were initially stated. Then in 16 in Tinker v Des Moines School District the court ruled that you do not shed your rights at the school gate. From these cases to the bizarre 188 case between Hustler Magazine and Jerry Falwell where the court ruled that jokes or political cartoons do no count as character defamation. These cases and so many others have been far-reaching and diverse in the rulings reaffirming your 1st amendment rights and restricting them during certain situations that would create clear and present danger.

The voting amendments have truly been crucial to the development of the country. Try to imagine an election today in which people of minority races were not allowed to vote. The Republican Party would win virtually every election and the Democratic Party with minority planks would not exist. The course of American history would be altered without the minority vote. Also, the women of America staged a suffrage movement in the early 100's. The movement led to the future ascending of the business ladder by all sorts of women. This infusion of new ideas and new policy is critical to the economy. Also the war in Vietnam brought about new voting rights for 18 year olds. The young people who were drafted and were dying for the country felt they should have the right to vote so through protests and awareness they received the right to vote. This young person vote helped to elect the most famous governor ever, Jessie Ventura.

The power to declare war is a critical power that can change the outlook of a country. If the president had the power to declare war instead of the congress it is possible that a US president could become a rouge military leader. While the president is the commander of the armed forces and has the power to take military action the congress can order the action to stop after a time of 60 days. This clause has a great meaning in today's politics. If the president were unchecked in his command of the armed forces, Bush would absolutely be going into Iraq whenever he wanted. He would wait until the weather was favorable and then just go. Because congress does have the power to declare war he sought the approval of the congress in the form of a resolution that would allow him the power to enter into war with Iraq if Iraq does not comply with UN resolutions. The power to declare war is another important part of the Constitution.

The elastic clause is just as important as any of the other clauses or amendments to the Constitution. The elastic clause says that the congress shall have the power "To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers." Without this clause the congress would not have been able to create a national bank or purchase the Louisiana territory from Napoleon. This flexibility allows for the modern intent of the law to be carried out. Also this flexible interpretation of the constitution has proved critical in many court cases regarding the intent of the law or the explicit wording of the law.

All of these parts of the Constitution are critical influences on how we live our lives today and you cannot rank any of them more important than the next. The Constitution is a great document because there are no weak, unimportant parts. Each clause, each amendment serves a unique purpose in setting up the greatest government the world has ever known.

ESSAY

"Consumerism encourages conformity and undermines moral and ethical values in our society"

This is portrayed throught the media in modern society. Bruce dawe tapps into this worlds unethical materialistic views and ecpressed them throught the use of satire, black humour, pesonificaltion imagery and sarcasm.

In the Poem Enterwithout so much as knocking, Dawe satirically critsises the family the baby is born into, as they have conformed to the consumer drivin worlds ideals of a average family.

"as any well equipped smoothly run household, containe one ecconomy sized mum and one anthony squires coolstream summerweight dad"

This quote has a tone of patronism this tone is conveyed to the audience and makes us skeptical of the outcome of the family.

Dawe suggest through this poem how completely innocent thing such as a baby can become corrupted and conformed into unethical and un moral people.

Dawe portarys the stab in the back attitude of the grown up child and uses chliches to show the audience how shallow minded and heartles the world of material possestions had made him "kick whoevers down, number one every time for this chicken"

The same theme of the heartless unsympathetic unreverened attitudes of the world of advertising are shown also in breakthrough.

"a little girl is reported to have died happily in hospital singing a advertising commercial.

To the audience this introduction sets a so natural for a child to be affected by television.

Dawes tone in this paragraph is factual and definate, news, reporter like, it makes it unpersonal for the audience there is no sadness, etc.

The way consumerism is conveyed in this poem is the comercialisation of religion and heaven dawe conveys how nothing is sacred to advertising companies they will destroy anyone or anything to premote their product even exploit a little girls death in order to open up a new market in heaven.

Stand by all angelic host angels backed up by guitars

The way people have been sold out to consumerism has been depicted in the song sell out by george. album poly serena 001

In this song it explains how people conform to societys expectations and needs.

' I knew you before you entered through the deadly door its eaten away at you its givin you the itch your dreaming of returning but you don't think you can"

Metaphorically the door represents the selling out of a pesons life force or soul to influences that dehumanise themselves, this is suported when they say ' they dont mind to blacken your stream they are pulling you along" They is used repitiotiously so to personify the force of advertising.

'Blacken your stream" corrupt your mind the repitition in the song of "they dont" reinforces to the audience how the media has brought people to loose all ethical value in their life.

All these ideas of consumerism can be sumed up in the documentary Unreal images. The focus of the video is the images conveyed through the media and the messages they are sending to their target audience.

"she's beautifull he's gorgeous" Marlee at the beginging of the film has been consumed by the ifluence of the media and has been influenced by the messages they have sent her.

Pip hasn't so much been affected she realises that not everything she sees is real.

"do you find that when you feature something in a magazine people buy it?...... yes definaterly retailers love being in the mag because they get allot of calls,"

The advertising in the magazine influences teenage girls who want to be perfect, they see it they want it because they think they will be better off with it.

The magazine plays on girls securities on self image.

"our message is to be happy with who you are' this is contradicted all the way through the magazine and documentary, computer enhansing is mention repetitavely, "we can fix the little things" "the natural look" pluck blush surl etc. " I have used a bottle of product to achive this 'natural look"

There is a demand for conformity and the undermining of the morals and ethics in all media products especially in the modern gerneration with the thought that,

"because I need it I deserve it because I deserve it I will do anything nessasary to obtain it"

Consumerism sets each person against themselves in the endless quest for the attainment of material goods and the imaginary world conjured up by things yet to be purchased.

All four texts are and expression of the need to find ourselves again after consumerism has taken away our individuality personality and identity, the text point out how our lives have been manipulated to conform to this consumeristic world that has been conjured up by world companies.

Our staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in Dream analysis, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your Dream analysis paper at affordable prices!

What is Dream Analysis? Dream Analysis is the process of taking your own dreams that you have and breaking them down to have a greater meaning then they possess on the surface. Dreams are like warning signals in your mind of what is to come in your future. Dream analysis is really what you want it to be, it can be used as a way of entertainment for your life or for a way of telling the future in your life. In order to use dream analysis one must follow some steps to prepare your self to assess your dreams. First off you need some sort of note book to record your dreams when you have them,

Believe it or not there actually is a proper way to sleep to be able to remember your dream and then asses it. You must first relax your self completely before taking your nap. As you are falling asleep the main thing on your mind should be the main "theme" in your life you are concerned about, and a sub thought that you are going to remember your dream. How ever you should really concentrate to hard as it will keep you awake. You must also plan on waking up slowly so nothing is shaken from you. The number one reason that we don't remember our dreams is because we don't get enough sleep. The last thing that is vital to remembering your dreams is your health, make sure you take all your vitamins and such, poor nutrition is another cause of forgetting your dreams.

Most dreams however are not prophetic. If one was to assume that every dream was they would often find them selves with allot of misinterpretations. Your dreams about your self and only your self 0% of the time. After having a dream you should categorize it with a certain theme that is going on in your life at that time. You want to put it into a theme so you get that "ah hah" feeling inside you like it fits there.

Along these lines there are also some universal symbols in dream analysis that you should know if you plan one using this method. They simply are animals, automobiles or vehicles, children, clothing, death, buildings, and people. Now let's break these main themes down one by one.

Essay service for your Dream analysis paper

Animals, when you see animals in your dreams this usually is signifying a bad trait. It is easier for us to look bat at an animal in disgust at what they are doing, which in turn can be symbolizing how you should feel. A good example of this which I found online would be this, "a woman on a diet and really wants to loose weight but is prone to binge eating. She has tried and failed many times, but this time has resolve. That night in a moment of weakness, she eats a big slice of cake, and a bowl of ice cream. That night she dreams of being on a farm on a cloudy day, and watching in disgust as a big manure covered sow eats and sucks non-stop at her sloop. She is astonished and ashamed when she noticed what the sow was eating! (cake and ice cream). It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out what that dream means, or what the animal symbolized! Her dream was telling her she would feel about as good about herself as she felt about the sow if she did not control her eating." This shows how animals can be used to teach our selves a lesson.

Automobiles, Vehicles that you're riding in usually reflect one of two things, the direction you are heading in life or you body. The condition of which the car is in might represent the condition of your life or body. So if you are dreaming of a brand new corvette, flying down the road with your favorite song playing things are looking good. However, if you are driving a beat up piece of junk on a stormy night, things probally aren't going to well. Results may very if you are a mechanic or such that is exposed to vehicles all day.

Children, A child represents to most people something new coming up in our lives. You base how well the new thing in your life is going to go based on the child's actions in the dream. If he is pleasant and easy to work with or if he is nasty and rude, this will tell you if it going to have the positive or negative outcome or overall effect.

Clothing, Clothing is something that you as a person often vary depending on how you feel, there for clothing represents the type of mood or the state of mind that you are in. It can also signify attitude, and the face in which we put on for the public to see us as. Also, a commonly overlooked clue is sometimes you see clothes on a clothes line, or lying around. It would be a good idea to take note as to what style and condition the clothes you see are.

Death, Any dream that you have about death is going to represent some type of change in your life. It can represent a change in your life, attitude, or emotional balance. These dreams usually show that you have a fear of change, usually the type of change is in your general life or some type of threat, and on the rare occasion they actually symbolize death.

Buildings, Buildings symbolize a certain area on your life such as maybe your profession. A bathroom may pertain to your general health and hygiene habits, and a kitchen might be about your eating and nutrition. These kinds of dreams are often prophetic. You should always write down and analyze the dreams of your childhood. When you dream if great buildings like cathedrals and large churches this usually means that the dream has a great meaning, and should be taken seriously.

People, People represent your own personality traits and these are the traits that you need to improve in your life, or if they are negative you need to work on getting rid of them. You should immediately ask of yourself, what traits do I like, and what traits do I dislike in the characters I dream about?

So in conclusion Dream analysis can be very beneficial to a person understanding what is going on in their lives. If you really break down your dreams the right way you will be surprised at how much you actually learn about your self!

Please note that this sample paper on Dream analysis is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes.
